It's turning into quite the morning for, uh, outing double-standards in the media. First was my item mentioning that Bob Herbert of the NYT had accused Hillary Clinton of "opening a trap door" under Obama. Readers are invited to imagine the PC outrage if a conservative had expressed the desire to do the same to the Illinois senator.
Now comes Mike Allen of the Politico. In his Playbook column of this morning, Allen offers this quote from Jann Wenner's over-the-top endorsement of Obama in Rolling Stone:
We have a deeply divided nation . . . A new president must heal these divides . . . Like Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama challenges America to rise up, to do what so many of us long to do: to summon 'the better angels of our nature.'
Allen's suggestion to Wenner in reaction to his breathless prose: "Get a room!"
This to a man who famously left his wife and is now in a relationship with a male partner with whom he has a son.
Insert here the outraged reaction from the MSM, the gay community and the Obama campaign if a conservative commentator had made a similar suggestion.

We need another of thsse once in a million Televised Events, where politicians/Journalists who are in the Sack swapping Spit are publically reprimanded and Exposed. But right now, the MSM TV screens would not show it, if it happened. As it is now with the Success of the Surge if the Iraq War . . . gone missing in action from your TV screen.
As to your Question as to how the Politically correct muzzel seems to be on the Right side of the Aisle right now.....SNL, and NB's Video Blog here which had a very fast run up the "you tube" rankings . . I think Humor at the absurdity of the current MSM is going to work very well, but RUSH L. would catch Grief on the Same Comment. They have guys in the bushes, with Scopes trained on Rush....we would have to go down the far right food chain a little more to find someone on the Right that could survive the "comment", maybe Cunninham could get away with the same comment ?
Maybe the Layoff of the very BUSY Screen Writers gave them a chance to watch a boatload of MSM TV.....and I find it funny that SNL came out so fast with "laugh track scripts" about Talking heads.
There is further examples of this effect (new media) to me, as.....
I did NOT watch SNL
I did NOT watch the Debate
Yet I know what each did, and the context of the Humor, via the internet "news". That's in itself is pretty amazing and is pointing to the shifting of the "irrelevancy" of the MSM.

I see San Fran up in arms, marching, demanding the public and spectacular self-immolation of Mr. Allen. On second thought, they'd probably want to light the fire themselves.
His comment is perfect though, for all of the Obama-adoration. Every time the media does the Obama genuflection, someone ought to tell them to "Get a Room". It would shut them down in a hurry, just like a crowd member yelling at McEnroe "Boring" when he acted out.

Really? And exactly how is Obama going to do that?
Let's see....all the people who agree with him will still agree...
And all those who disagree with him...will suddenly see the light and agree?
And as for uniting: Obama has made it plain that he's NOT open to compromise. He only wants to work with those who agree with him. He doesn't say we should find things we can agreee on, he says he will work with people who do agree with him on certain things.
Exactly how is that special?

Rolling Stone magazine...yeah, that one....
March 8, 2008 - 13:35 ET by spiderdanI used to read Rolling Stone -- back in the '70's -- just to see how often the members of Led Zeppelin would "diss" the staff (being a huge Zep fan, then and now). For anyone at this rag to believe their pot sustained pontifications hold water is akin to believing everyone in a Texas jail is the victim of overzealous traffic cops trying to make a quota.
Yeah, you've got a forum (a magazine) and an audience (people looking for juicy gossip about rock stars), but little clue about how the real world functions. A cursory review of Rolling Stone presidential endorsements reveal an ignorance rooted in the aforementioned state of chemically altered perception.
Advice to Jann Wenner: stick to sniffing the flatulent discharge of rock stars, avoiding serious discussion topics for fear of being accused of paying attention to matters you possess absolutely no ability to comprehend.

March 8, 2008 - 16:44 ET by Chris NormanThe assertion that Obama will "unite the country" is patently absurd. He isn't espousing so-called "centrist" policies. He isn't even trying to hide his radical liberalism. This rhetoric used to be applied to "moderates" like McCain or Bob Kerrey. Why would they think, for even one second, that a far left politician would suddenly become acceptable to conservatives? This has got to be the lamist con job ever attempted from the grifters of the media.

mb,I suppose it goes back
March 8, 2008 - 17:15 ET by Chris Normanmb, I suppose it goes back to this country's collective short memory. Why else would they think liberal policies that were attempted for decades, failed, and caused new problems would suddenly work now? It's not that conservatism failed. Conservatives could never even begin to undo the liberal programs and policies that were already in place. At best, they may have slowed their growth down slightly. I wish conservatism and it's programs would be tried.

March 8, 2008 - 17:51 ET by ahusserIt's because we are meanies, and insensitive and racist and stupid and violent (sarc) if not downright evil . The whole socialist movement has always been imbued with this magical utopian becoming.
Hillary's Last Stand
March 8, 2008 - 20:33 ET by m36b1I saw that headline on the cover of the Rolling Stone. One can only hope it ends like the historical "Custer's Last Stand" - not that I'd ever want to besmearch General G.A. Custer by comparing Shillary Clinton to him; only the circumstances of his demise. Yes, an overconfident Hillary shouting "We got' em on the run boys" followed by her and her team charging recklessly to what they believe to be a great victory, only to find themselves surrounded on a hill. Then in an effort to save herself, she shoots down all her horses (staff) to make a barricade. Finally, ammo running out, she and her adjutants are shot down (figuratively of course), scalped, butchered, stripped, and left to bloat in the hot sun of the political specturm - finally to be buried under a skiff of dirt so the coyotes and vultures can scatter their bones all over. Unfortunately, the MSM doesn't ride with her to the actual battlefield, so they're left to continue spitting invective. Finally, the DemocRats could then build a big monument to her political career and argue for centuries to come about what could have been, who betrayed her, etc., etc., etc., just the same as the "Custer debate".
Of course one could then argue that as the Sioux Indians were eventually defeated totally after the Little Bighorn, the same could be said of the GOP. But since the GOP/DNC political war is being fought on relatively equal terms unlike the Plains Indian Wars, we can hope that would never be the case.
