Last night, Saturday Night Live used its cold opening skit to wade into the Planned Parenthood scandal and the “stomach churning” undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress.
SNL opened with a skit featuring a recreation of Fox and Friends and cast member Vanessa Bayer initially tried to downplay the videos. While portraying Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Bayer joked that Planned Parenthood was “selling baby parts on Snapchat.”
Afterwards, the three brought on Kate McKinnon who portrayed DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to try and defend Planned Parenthood. In her fake questioning of Schultz, SNL’s Hasselbeck wondered if she was “really defending an organization that sells babies the way that KFC sells chicken?”
Rather than actually defend Planned Parenthood, SNL’s Schultz asked if Hasselbeck “do you want to get into a legal battle with a woman named Debbie Wasserman Schultz. My name sounds like a law firm.” Using exaggerated facial expressions, McKinnon asked “[d]o you really want to take on Planned Parenthood..I will put all three of your heads in a mammogram machine and squish them like pancakes and serve them like IHOP.”
After Taran Killam, who portrayed Fox’s Steve Doocy, accused Schultz of being “hysterical” the fake DNC Chair threatened to “smack you upside the head with a transvaginal wand” before trying to defend the abortion giant one final time as the scene came to an end.
