Which is “proof” that “you have to be ready for anything in politics”: a curtain falling down or Planned Parenthood activists throwing condoms? The curtain, according to the broadcast news shows.
A local ABC affiliate reported Planned Parenthood protesters threw condoms at Carly Fiorina Saturday while she spoke at an Iowa Hawkeyes tailgate party. Not one of the broadcast news shows from ABC, NBC or CBS batted an eye at the news. Instead, they gasped at another “scary moment” for Fiorina: a curtain falling down on top of her during a speech.
At the condom-throwing protest, a self-described Planned Parenthood patient, Cindy Shireman, confronted Fiorina at the rally. “How can you, as a woman, not support our healthcare?" she asked.
“Oh, I support your healthcare,” Fiorina responded. “I don't support the butchery of babies.”
That news didn’t translate into headlines for the broadcast networks.
But the network morning news shows were only too happy to hype other bizarre news from Fiorina’s campaign trail.
On Sept. 28, Good Morning America reported that a curtain fell on the presidential candidate during a San Antonio speech.
ABC correspondent Tom Llamas reported on the “terrifying moment on the campaign trail” that was “just proof you have to be ready for anything in politics.”
That same day, CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell showcased the “frightening moments.” NBC also highlighted the “scary moment on stage.”
