Charles Krauthammer made a comment to Jon Stewart Wednesday evening that the folks at the Daily Show for some reason edited out of the version aired on Comedy Central.
Speaking about his new book "Things That Matter," Krauthammer told his host, "You need the book because you don’t watch enough Fox News" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Look, you don't expect a politician to spend half his speech praising the other side. So it's a matter of time constraints. I have a lot of time.
JON STEWART, HOST: [Laughs]
KRAUTHAMMER: I got the book done, I had 30 years. It's all, again, it’s in one book. Easy to carry on airplanes
STEWART: I don't think this is the audience that needs to read it. Give this to Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz. Don’t give it to them [pointing at audience], they know. We’re going to go, will you stick, stick around for a little bit. “Things That Matter” is on bookshelves now. Charles Krauthammer. We’ll be back with some more right after this.
Unfortunately, Comedy Central viewers missed a great response from Krauthammer that was in the extended online version of this interview but was conspicuously edited out of the cable version (edits in bold):
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Look, you don't expect a politician to spend half his speech praising the other side. So it's a matter of time constraints. I have a lot of time.
JON STEWART, HOST: [Laughs]

STEWART: I don't think this is the audience that needs to read it. Give this to Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz. Don’t give it to them [pointing at audience], they know. We’re going to go, will you stick, stick around for a little bit. We’ll continue talking about it.
KRAUTHAMMER: Ryan and Cruz hear me every night.
STEWART: Is that true?
KRAUTHAMMER: They don’t need the book. You need…
STEWART: So they just sit around watching Fox News?
KRAUTHAMMER: You need the book because you don’t watch enough Fox News.
STEWART: Oh God, you’re not, talk about wanting to commit suicide: yes I do. “Things That Matter” is on bookshelves now. Charles Krauthammer. We’ll be back with some more right after this.
Now ComedyCentral.com was going to be publishing the extended version of this interview which included three parts: one that largely was aired on cable except these edits at the end and two lengthy additional segments.
As such, why edit this little section out of what was aired?
Was it embarrassing to Stewart that Krauthammer told him he needs to read his book because he doesn't watch enough Fox News?
Hmmm.
