The panic amongst Obama-loving media members over the possibility that Congress won’t support the President’s planned attack on Syria is becoming palpable.
On PBS’s Inside Washington Friday, the Washington Post’s Colby King said, “A defeat of this magnitude would diminish his presidency” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
COLBY KING, WASHINGTON POST: A defeat of this magnitude would diminish his presidency - not just the legislative agenda he has, but his presidency domestically and internationally. Here’s a president who can’t deliver on something as fundamental as this issue. There’s no fallback position. I mean, his administration has got to see this as the most urgent, most urgent task in front of them.
What's scary about this is the possibility that some in the media will put Obama's interests above those of the nation.
The more King's colleagues come to the same conclusion he has, the more they might spin news to try to change the country's current opposition to the war.
If that doesn't work, and Congress doesn't offer its support, it will be interesting to watch how so-called journalists blame that supposedly dysfunctional body while defending the president they so esteem.
In the end, they're going to have to figure out a way to make this NOT diminish his presidency.
The only question is how.
Stay tuned.
