Will Media Report Bain Capital Contributes More to Democrats Than Republicans?

January 19th, 2012 1:40 PM

As NewsBusters has been reporting, the Obama-loving media are in a full-court press depicting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his former company Bain Capital as ruthless, Wall Street raiders willing to step on anybody for money.

But will they inform the public that according to The Hill, Bain employees actually give more money to Democrats than to Republicans:

During the last three election cycles, Bain employees have given Democratic candidates and party committees more than $1.2 million. The vast majority of that sum came from senior executives.

Republican candidates and party committees raised over $480,000 from senior Bain executives during that time period.

Wow. That's almost three to one. But there's more:

Recipients include Democratic senators facing tough reelection races this year, such as Jon Tester (Mont.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio) and Bill Nelson (Fla.). [...]

Romney has collected more money from Bain Capital employees than any federal candidate since the beginning of 2007, amassing more than $166,000 in contributions. He took more than $84,000 from Bain employees in the first three quarters of 2011.

But President Obama received a sizable share as well. He has accepted more than $80,000 from Bain employees since the beginning of 2007. Bain Capital employees gave $27,500 to Obama during the first three quarters of 2011.

As Hot Air's Ed Morrissey noted Thursday, "If Obama wants to paint Romney as a corporate raider, the response should be why Obama and these Senators took money from the corporate raiders they claim to detest, assuming Romney wins the nomination. The Bain attack will likely be as big a flop in the general as it proved to be in the primaries."

Maybe, but only if the media reports it.

Sure, Romney and various Super PACs can try to fend off Obama's accusations, but if the press only cover this from the Administration's perspective without addressing the hypocrisy of accepting funds from an entity you're attacking, much of the public will never know about Bain contributions to the current White House resident and therefore won't see the irony.

I don't know about you, but I don't imagine Obama-loving media members are chomping at the bit to share this little bombshell with their patrons.

Stay tuned.

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.
