In this week's edition of “which turbo-liberal multi-millionaire is whining like a child,” we turn to Lil Nas X as he plays the victim card for his lack of BET nominations this year. He implies in now-deleted tweets that he was snubbed because he’s black and gay, according to a Pink News article published June 2.
The BET awards come around every year to traditionally celebrate and award the entertainment industry’s best African-American artists, athletes, actors, and others. Lil Nas X made a name for himself as a provocateur of sorts in music, doing all sorts of ridiculous stunts such as selling satanic shoes with human blood in them, dancing half-naked with Satan in a music video, and making a fool of himself on stage at the Grammy’s.
So it’s no surprise that he would make himself a victim and attract more attention to himself. He writes in a deleted tweet, “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”
For someone who owes their public image to being a grade-A human circus to say they feel “invisible” is high comedy.
Then again, perhaps Lil Nas X is uncovering a plot against black gay multi-millionaires. Everyone in America, of course, knows that black gay multi-millionaires with a penchant for Satan are the real downtrodden in our day.
I guess his deal with the devil didn’t pay off at BET.
