Enraged Nicolle Wallace: Why Aren't We Marching on Immigrant-Detention Facilities?

July 12th, 2019 7:19 AM

With her outburst on Thursday, Nicolle Wallace has cemented her position as MSNBC's most virulent Trump hater. The former McCain campaign aide literally makes Rachel Maddow look, in comparison, like the voice of sweet reason.

On her MSNBC show this afternoon, an enraged Wallace, after throwing her notes in the air in anger, demanded to know, regarding President Trump's immigration policies: "Why aren't we marching on these [detention] facilities?"

Wallace had become visibly agitated when Rick Stengel, a former Time editor-turned-Obama-appointee, said, regarding Trump's immigration policies, that "the cruelty was the point." In doing so, Stengel was parroting the headline of an Atlantic article, which Joy Reid also recently echoed

When Stengel added that the planned raids on illegals are "purely symbolic," Wallace exploded, literally pounding the table, hurling her papers in the air [see screencap], and railing, "it's also becoming purely symbolic for us to sit here day, after day, after day, after day, after day, after day. To what end? Where are the Democrats? Why aren't we marching on these facilities?"

Question: in speaking of "we," did Wallace mean to include herself among the Democrats she faulted for not [so far] having marched on the "facilities?"

Maybe Nicolle and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could organize such a march. Pro-tip: for the photo-op this time around, try to have some actual illegal immigrants in the frame, rather than an empty parking lot

Here's the transcript.

RON KLAIN: The level of cruelty and harshness here is truly immeasurable.

RICK STENGEL: But that is the point: the point is the cruelty.

NICOLLE WALLACE: I'm tired of that conversation!

STENGEL: Two thousand? That's a tiny, tiny fraction of 1% [of all the illegals in the US.] It's purely symbolic, to show that they're the tough guy and they're getting people out, so his voters see that he's doing that.

WALLACE: It's also becoming purely symbolic for us to sit here day, after day, after day, after day, after day, after day [hurls documents in air], with all these documents, all these statistics, and say the cruelty is the point. To what end? Where are the Democrats? Why aren't we marching on these facilities?"
