Recall this cover of Time magazine?
It featured a photoshopped President Trump gazing down at a sobbing little girl - the two-year old child, Yanela Sanchez, supposedly separated from her mother just after the Honduran mother had illegally crossed the border into the United States. The caption: “Welcome to America.” In fact, Time had not only photoshopped the President into the make-believe picture, the actual photo of the crying little girl inaccurately tried to give the impression the child had been cruelly separated from her mother by the Border Patrol. It wasn’t true, and Time was forced to issue a correction that read:
“The original version of this story misstated what happened to the girl in the photo after she taken (sic) from the scene. The girl was not carried away screaming by U.S. Border Patrol agents; her mother picked her up and the two were taken away together.”
Be that as it may, the original photograph of the crying Yanela Sanchez went, as they say, viral. The New York Daily News, for example, put it on its front page with this cover:
Over at CNN, Chris Cillizza jumped on the bandwagon before the untruth of the story was known, saying: “It's a telling image. It shows the compassion gap that exists between the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" border policy and the real-life people that are affected.”
Now. Have you noticed who is not on the cover of Time right now? That would be Corporal Ronil Singh of the Newman, California police department. Nor is Gustavo Perez Arriaga on Time’s cover. Both lost out to the barn burning cover story titled The Future of Babies: A Special Report.
And right there is the real, uncovered story about the liberal media’s role in the ongoing debate over President Trump’s insistence on building the wall on the southern border - and the refusal of the Nancy Pelosi Democrats to fund it.
Unlike the phony “crying child” story that made Time’s cover in June of 2018, Ronil Singh’s story is, tragically, all too true. So, infuriatingly, is the story of Gustavo Perez Arriaga. Officer Singh, a legal American immigrant from Fiji, was allegedly shot to death by Arriaga when Singh pulled Arriaga over for suspicion of drunk driving.
Not only had Arriaga two prior arrests for driving under the influence but yes, you guessed it, Gustavo Perez Arriaga was not simply an illegal who had been in the US illegally for at least two years - he was also a member of the Sureños street gang. Said Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson of the fact that Arriaga was roaming the area in freedom instead of being deported:
“We were prohibited — law enforcement was prohibited because of sanctuary laws and that led to the encounter with officer Singh. The outcome could have been different if law enforcement wasn’t restricted, prohibited, or had their hands tied because of political interference.”
Another person who did not make Time’s cover? That would be the five month son of Ronil Singh, who will now never know his father. Nor did Ronil Singh’s wife make the cover, she now separated from her husband forever. To borrow from CNN’s Cillizza, the absence of Officer Singh and/or his family from the cover of Time shows the compassion gap that exists between the Pelosi border policy and the real-life people that are affected.
So what do we have here? Whatever else is going on, what we have is a liberal state media complicit in the campaign to prevent President Trump’s wall from being built by running fake news stories like the case of the crying girl to build sympathy for illegal immigration.
Meanwhile, when a real tragedy happens - the outright cold blooded murder of an American citizen by an illegal immigrant, a law enforcement officer at that who, by the by, happens to be the living embodiment of playing by the rules and immigrating to America legally - there is no time for a Time cover. The New York Daily News runs the story in its “Crime” section - no front page there either that shows the murdered Officer Singh with wife and five-month old baby saying:
Callous.
Soulless.
Craven.
Pelosi.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but in microcosm this is exactly why millions of Americans have long since abandoned what can only be called the liberal state media. What the new - make that the latest - owner of Time is all about is not the news but pushing the liberal agenda and disguising it as news, however increasingly in-artfully.
As noted in this space shortly before Christmas when the subject was Time’s selection of its “Person of the Year”, the magazine has become a perfect example of just how the liberal state media plays the game. Said at the time was this in the Huffington Post:
“Time magazine on Tuesday announced a group of journalists it called “The Guardians” as 2018 Person of the Year, referring to individuals “who have taken great risks in pursuit of greater truths.”
As 2019 begins, it should be crystal clear that no one in recent days has taken more of a risk in the “pursuit of greater truths” than Officer Ronil Singh. A greater truth that illegal immigrants, in this case an illegal immigrant who was both a member of a violent street gang who was being stopped a third time for drunk driving - should never have been in the country in the first place. For the the risk of this greater truth, Ronil Singh has paid with his life.
But don’t look for for him to be on the cover of Time, much less will his wife and baby separated from him for life be on the cover.
All of which reconfirms for millions of Americans that the liberal state media is not about either the news or truth but rather it is about the manipulation of news to fit the latest narrative of the liberal agenda.
And sad to say, the true story of the cold blooded murder of Officer Ronil Singh just doesn’t fit the bill like the fake news of that crying little girl who was, in fact, never separated from her mother.
