Reporters and journalists tend to avoid the stories that are personal to them on principle. But when it comes to LGBTQ rights, not so much. CNN practically needs a dedicated trophy case for all the GLAAD awards it’s talent has brought home.
As if further proof were needed, Out Magazine recently released its Power 50 list for 2017, a list of the most powerful people in the media who identify as LGBTQ. Mixed in with drag queen RuPaul Charles, Grindr CEO Joel Simkhai and Caitlyn Jenner were top anchors and reporters for CNN, MSNBC, and ABC: Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and Robin Roberts. In total, seven news anchors were named as part of the Power 50.
Anderson Cooper hasn’t been squeaky clean about keeping his career and his personal life separate. In a Town Hall meeting with Gov. John Kasich on April 24, 2017, he brought the gay plaintiff from a former case concerning same-sex marriage out to meet the governor in person. This pressured Governor Kasich into talking about his stance on the LGBTQ community. Cooper also won a GLAAD award in 2013.
Robin Roberts, one of the anchors on ABC’s Good Morning America, recently spoke out on a June 23, 2017 episode about how she was “disappointed” in Mississippi’s LGBTQ legislation. She said, “The LBGT community is not looking for special treatment. They’re not looking for special rights. It’s about equal rights, civil rights, human rights. That’s what it’s all about.”
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, is also on the list. In 2015, he led 8,000 members of Apple in a gay pride parade in San Francisco.
Don Lemon is also on that list. In a CNN video, Lemon is seen baiting Kentucky gubernatorial candidate Matt Bevin into making a statement on the LGBTQ community, using a clip from the television show “West Wing” in order to make some point about how the Bible is obsolete in defining American morals.
Huffpost’s editor-in-chief, Lydia Polgreen, number 39 on the Out Power 50, is well known for her commentary favoring the LGBTQ community and slandering the conservative stance on gay marriage. She told Vogue, “It’s been hard to get used to this public discussion of my biography and identity. . . if those are helpful for modeling what’s possible -- or for raising issues that might not otherwise get heard--I’m happy and humbled to play that role.”
Also in that list were 5 showrunners: Jill Soloway, Ryan Murphy, the Wachowoskis, Bryan Fuller, and Greg Berlanti. Soloway has given the world the television show, “Transparent,” which is about a father who decides to become transgender.
Murphy produced the shows “Glee” and “American Horror Story,” which are anti-Catholic and extremely pro-LGBTQ in their content. Apparently, American Horror Story is interested in adding President Trump and Ivanka to their list of portrayals, and the show has smeared nuns, crucifixes, and everything Catholics hold sacred. “Glee” was known for being insensitive towards Sandy Hook victims. Murphy really makes a great role model.
The Wachowskis, both transwomen, have done movies fantasizing about President Bush’s assassination. These are the same people who produced the Matrix movies. Fuller, showrunner for “Hannibal,” produced a show warning people that eating turkey was cannibalism. And Berlanti’s show Riverdale perverted, twisted, and sexualized the innocent comic Archie until it was no longer wholesome.
Four producers made it to the list as well: Ellen Page, Scott Rudin McCraney, Chris Kelly, and Lee Daniels. Page has raised funds for Planned Parenthood and has been known to publicly criticize Fox News and the United States in general.
Kelly has written for SNL and Broad City, best known for his skit “First Got Horny 2 U.” He has given entertainment nothing but quality content at it’s finest.
Overall, the Power 50 list displayed just how much control the left has over the media.
