Ellen Whines: Hillary ‘Cannot Catch a Break’ With E-Mail Scandal

November 8th, 2016 3:20 PM

Commiserating with left-wing Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren on Monday, daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres complained that Hillary Clinton was the victim of an “unprecedented” FBI investigation while being “this close” to the election.

DeGeneres decried the examination of Clinton’s ongoing e-mail scandal: “It feels like she cannot catch a break. It feels like – I mean, to be this close – I mean, there are a lot of things that are stacked against her. Being a woman is number one. But the fact that these email things will not go away and now this new investigation from the FBI, which is unprecedented, that they're doing.”

Warren eagerly seized the chance to dismiss the controversy: “We’ve been around this block like how many times over the last year and a half? There’s this unknown thing and yet talking about it could actually do real damage to somebody who didn’t do something – anything wrong....I don't get this.” DeGeneres replied: “Yeah, I don't either.”

Earlier in the friendly interview, DeGeneres urged Warren to recite some of her nastiest attacks against Donald Trump: “So you are Trump's biggest nightmare, I think. A lot of people really go at him, but you really – you don't pull your punches. There are some things you’ve said. I would love you to just read a few of these things that you’ve said about him.”

Tell the Truth 2016

Warrren happily obliged: “All factual. Selfish sleazeball. Small, insecure money-grubber. Thin-skinned racist bully. Loser. Two-bit dictator. Loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud. And a genuine threat to our country. Because I believe it.”

Moments later, the Democrat added: “Trump is a guy who inherited a fortune and spent his life making the fortune bigger a lot of times by just cheating people and chiseling people. And so it’s a question of who’s going to lead this great country. I'm all in with Hillary Clinton on this.” DeGeneres chimed in: “I am, too.”

Despite encouraging such vicious rhetoric, DeGeneres later laughably remarked: “And so tomorrow is Election Day....And I will personally be glad when this is all over because it just divides people.”

The self-proclaimed “not political” host spent the entire 2016 campaign season boosting Clinton at every opportunity.

Here is a transcript of the November 7 exchange with Warren:

ELLEN DEGENERES: So you are Trump's biggest nightmare, I think. A lot of people really go at him, but you really – you don't pull your punches. There are some things you’ve said. I would love you to just read a few of these things that you’ve said about him.

ELIZABETH WARREN: All factual.

DEGENERES: Yeah.

WARREN: Selfish sleazeball. Small, insecure money-grubber. Thin-skinned racist bully. Loser. Two-bit dictator. Loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud. And a genuine threat to our country. Because I believe it.

DEGENERES: You do believe that?

WARREN: Yeah.

[CHEERS & APPLAUSE]

DEGENERES: Here's the thing, people – there are people – and someone just mentioned this to me again. There are people that say it really doesn't matter who wins. I mean, there are a lot of people that don't like either of them, either Hillary or Trump. And they say it doesn't really matter who wins. What do you say to that?

WARREN: You know, the way I look at this is this is really about what these people have spent their lives doing. And Hillary Clinton has been out there fighting for children, fighting for women, fighting for human rights, fighting for equality, fighting for healthcare. That's pretty much what she's dedicated her life to. Trump is a guy who inherited a fortune and spent his life making the fortune bigger a lot of times by just cheating people and chiseling people. And so it’s a question of who’s going to lead this great country. I'm all in with Hillary Clinton on this.

DEGENERES: Yeah, well, I –

[CHEERS & APPLAUSE]

I am, too. It feels like she cannot catch a break. It feels like – I mean, to be this close – I mean, there are a lot of things that are stacked against her. Being a woman is number one. But the fact that these email things will not go away and now this new investigation from the FBI, which is unprecedented, that they're doing. What do you make of this?

WARREN: You know, what’s been going on here –we've been talking about this for like a year and a half. And now there's this – sort of this a new box of emails, this is how I think of it. Yes, yes, I know they’re electronic and not really in boxes, but this is how you think of it. And the FBI has said, “Gee, there's this box and we don't actually know what's in it, but we wanted to tell you that we're gonna take another look.” The idea that they would step in now and say, “There's this unknown thing that probably has nothing in it.” We’ve been around this block like how many times over the last year and a half? There’s this unknown thing and yet talking about it could actually do real damage to somebody who didn’t do something – anything wrong.

DEGENERES: Yeah, no, I can't imagine what she’s –

WARREN: I don't get this.

DEGENERES: Yeah, I don't either. And so tomorrow is Election Day.

WARREN: Yup, vote.

DEGENERES: And everyone must vote. I keep saying that everyday on the show, I’ve been saying it. And I will personally be glad when this is all over because it just divides people.
