Remember when How to Get Away with Murder's creator, Peter Nowalk, promised to use gay sex "to right the wrong of all of the straight sex that you see on TV?" On Thursday’s show, he uses a gay threesome as the tonic for Connor's (Jack Falahee) broken heart.
In “Don’t Tell Annalise,” Connor is determined to have sex with as many guys as possible to deal with his break-up with Oliver (Conrad Ricamora), his ex-boyfriend. He enthusiastically uses an app on his phone – Humpr – and boasts of his popularity, especially in front of Oliver. His motto: Unlike for straights, sex is no big deal for gays. Connor is such a terrible gay stereotype.
Michaela: OK. We get it. You want to hurt Oliver back..
Connor: Look, this might be difficult for all of you straight people to understand, but not all sex is a big deal.
Asher: Well, it's always a "Big" deal with me.
Michaela: You're ridiculous, and you've got a problem.
Connor: No, I've got game.
Connor: Show me your I.D.
Guy 1: I'm a junior. I told you.
Connor: There's no harm in proving it. You too.
Guy 2: You're quite bossy.
Connor: Yeah, just wait.
Guy 1: Satisfied?
Connor: Not yet. That's your job.
Connor asks for IDs from the two hook-up guys (the law class is working on a statutory rape case) and then tosses condoms at them. Yuck. How cold.
Oliver, meanwhile, is having more trouble finding partners on account of him being HIV positive, which he notes to Connor is “still a deal breaker for most guys.” “Stupid guys,” Connor responds. Yeah, avoiding AIDS is so dumb.
Oliver ends up telling Connor to “hook up as much as you want. Maybe don’t rub it in my face.” Yeah. Don’t let that mental visual linger too long. Poor Oliver. Now he’s just stuck with lousy lines in this script. And we're stuck with Nowalk's twisted gay sex fantasies for a recently single Connor.
