Sometimes you learn more about a periodical by what is not published in it than by what is published. And in the case of High Times magazine, what do we learn by the fact that all the marijuana oriented publications available on the Web, except High Times, have published stories about the revelation released by Wikileaks on Monday that Hillary Clinton during a private talk to bankers gave a most definite thumbs down to legalization of marijuana? Could it be that High Times is so in the tank for Hillary that they must avoid mentioning this story about what Hillary really says on their most important issue behind the scenes?
Contrast High Times silence on this topic with how other weed oriented magazines are covering it starting with the very appropriately named Marijuana:
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spoke out against legalizing marijuana in a paid speech, hacked emails from her campaign show.
During an on-stage Q & A session with Xerox’s chairman and CEO in March 2014, Clinton used Wall Street terminology to express her opposition to ending cannabis prohibition “in all senses of the word”:
URSULA BURNS: So long means thumbs up, short means thumbs down; or long means I support, short means I don’t. I’m going to start with — I’m going to give you about ten long-shorts.
SECRETARY CLINTON: Even if you could make money on a short, you can’t answer short.
URSULA BURNS: You can answer short, but you got to be careful about letting anybody else know that. They will bet against you. So legalization of pot?
SECRETARY CLINTON: Short in all senses of the word.
The excerpt comes from an internal Clinton campaign memo highlighting potentially problematic passages from her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs, General Electric, Deutsche Bank and other major corporations.
Green Rush Daily also weighed in on this topic that High Times is strangely avoiding:
Leaked emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign could land her in hot water with the cannabis community. That’s because a correspondence with her campaign chairman shows her giving legalization the thumbs down. Throughout her campaign, Clinton has been vague on the question of legalization. But now, the leaked message could shed new light on her position.
...On the one hand, Clinton has said we need more research before making any decisions. But when speaking with Ursula Burns things were a little different. There, she gave legalization what sounds like pretty enthusiastic thumbs down.
Finally, Herb gives their opinion:
While Trump has made it clear he wants more research done and won’t condone legalization without concrete proof of its properties, Clinton has gone from saying she supports legalization to denouncing the plant altogether. Now, thanks to some of those leaked emails of hers, we’re given the opportunity to see what she’s said to bankers and big businesses about the issue behind closed doors.
...she is protecting the interests of pharmaceutical companies and other Wall Street tycoons, who donate millions of dollars every year to fight cannabis legalization and kill bills that would advance medical research and funding. These high-powered companies have Clinton in their pocket, just as they do many other politicians, and the general public is left out in the cold, fondly missing the beloved Bernie Sanders.
Meanwhile, despite being by far the largest of the marijuana oriented magazines, High Times has remained silent on the behind the scenes Hillary thumbs down on marijuana legalization as revealed by Wikileaks. Their bizarre silence, in stark contrast to the widespread coverage by similar publications, is so very noticeable that it actually speaks volumes.
