If you were under the impression that the #1 topic among African-American sports fans in America was sports, well, you have been sorely mistaken. At least, according to Fox Sports 1’s Jason Whitlock. Because, Whitlock is convinced the #1 topic among black sports fans is…wait for it…white women.
On Fox Sports 1’s “Speak for Yourself,” Whitlock discussed Kyrie Irving’s response via social media, after pictures appeared of Irving partying on a yacht with white women. Whitlock shared his thoughts on the importance of this issue:
"Kyrie Irving got caught up in the #1 issue with Black sports fans... Black Athletes & White Women." -@WhitlockJasonhttps://t.co/dxkTjIzzMc

Kyrie Irving is out having a good time, celebrating. And he’s getting beat up for that. I will say this, Kyrie Irving just got caught up in probably the #1 issue that gets talked about among black sports fans: black athletes and white women. It gets talked about constantly. He’s coming off of the O.J. documentary, that just came out, that put black athletes and white athletes at the forefront of people’s minds.
I think he shouldn’t have engaged, he shouldn’t have responded over Instagram. I don’t think this picture that he tweets out answers the question. This is a staged photo, as opposed, we had a live video off someone’s phone of how he likes to party. And, if that’s how he likes to party, who cares?
Seriously? In recent months we have had multiple active and former black athletes shot and killed. Serial fatherhood and post-career bankruptcy continue to be rampant problems for a huge percentage of black athletes. And yet, despite all that, black athletes dating white women dominates the concern of black sports fans?
If true (which I doubt) it is mind-numbing insanity.
However, let’s assume for a second it is true. How is that not racist? Let’s further assume, for a second, that Cowherd (who is white) had said that the #1 issue among white sports fans was black players sleeping with white women. How would the world have reacted to that?
Cowherd, and white sports fans everywhere, would immediately be branded racists and Cowherd would be fired. Again, I have no doubt interracial dating/marriage is an issue to some people. I seriously doubt that it is the #1 issue among any people, white or black.
But I digress.
What I have no doubt about is that this story would be handled entirely differently if the other host had said the exact same thing.
