ABC Thrills Over DiCaprio’s ‘Outstanding’ Climate Change Speech

February 29th, 2016 11:29 AM

“Outstanding.” That’s how Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts described liberal Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change speech at the Oscars. The journalists at ABC were thrilled over the movie star’s advocacy. Lara Spencer hyped, “And Leo with his sixth Oscar nomination finally having his moment taking home best actor and using it as a platform for global change.”

After winning an Oscar, DiCaprio proclaimed, “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species.” Roberts gushed to the actor, as well as The Revenant’s director, “Both of your speeches were just outstanding.” The co-host lauded, “Climate change and to see the passion, what is the message you wanted to get out tonight?”

Ignoring ISIS and other threats, DiCaprio insisted, “It is the most urgent crisis that we've ever faced as a civilization. We can actually tackle this problem. We just have to have the political will.”

Of course, Roberts made no mention of the actor’s long history as a climate hypocrite, someone who flies around on private jets and enjoys private yachts. This attitude shouldn’t be surprising. After all, ABC’s GMA is the same show that featured alarmist weatherman Sam Champion. In 2008, he fretted, “Could global warming one day force us into space to live?”

A partial transcript of the February 29 segment, which aired at 7:08am ET, is below:
