George Stephanopoulos, unintentional comedian? The former Democratic operative turned Good Morning America co-host on Wednesday previewed the Michael Cohen hearings by appearing on the local ABC Washington affiliate. There, he ridiculously insisted that his goal is to assure viewers of his “fairness and “accuracy.”
An ABC 7 Washington reporter asked Stephanopoulos how he deals with “informing the public on news that’s constantly changing.” The GMA co-host responded that his goal is to make “sure we are always accurate, especially with these attacks coming in on the press, we have to make sure to go above and beyond to ensure that everything we do is accurate and fair.”
Accurate and fair? Stephanopoulos, it should be pointed out, in 2015 secretly donated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation at the same time reporting on the 2016 presidential race and Hillary Clinton. He was eventually forced to apologize. At the time he was secretly donating to the Clinton Foundation, Stephanopoulos praised the organization on-air.
In 2009, Politico revealed that the former Bill Clinton operative participated in daily conference calls with then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel throughout Stephanopoulos’s tenure at ABC.
For the history of George Stephanopoulos’s bias, see this MRC Profile in Bias, including in the 2008 declaring Barack Obama and Joe Biden the winner in every debate.
More recently, Stephanopoulos on Wednesday touted Michael Cohen’s testimony as having the “ring of truth.”
