View co-host Meghan McCain is making a habit of upending the liberal narrative on the ABC program. On Friday, she mocked the idea that Jim Comey is a pious, non-ideological truth teller, saying that the “highly political” ex-FBI Director just wants to be a View co-host.
McCain reminded: “I have many problems with James Comey... On one side, he wants to be this stand up, ‘I'm the head of the FBI, and apolitical, and I'm here for the FBI and national security,’ and on the other hand, he is talking about the size of Trump's hands.”
That led to an exchange where McCain challenged Comey’s seriousness:
MEGHAN MCCAIN: He has made himself this highly political animal, and I will say there are great people who work for the Justice Department like you who are just doing it because they want to be public servants. I think James Comey wants his own late night show.
SUNNY HOSTIN: I don’t agree with that.
MCCAIN: I think he wants to be a co-host on The View.
Co-host Sunny Hostin assailed any attacks on Comey:
They are doing a hit job on Comey. I myself, you know, having worked at the Justice Department, I thought he was an honorable leader. I think when you have the president of the United States and Republicans trying to take down our law enforcement institutions of the United States, I am horrified by that.
On Thursday, McCain slammed Behar for declaring a moral equivilance between the President and thug dictator Kim Jong-un.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: He is talking about all these salacious things and tweeting these highly political tweets about President Trump. So, once again, I don't know where you stand or who you are. Nate Silver tweeted, “Comey's decision to release the letter on October 28th was influenced by his interpretation of the polls, that really ought to cut against his image as an honorable, principled decision-maker. Instead, he was just trying to be expedient and save his hide.”
BEHAR: Well, that’s the good news and the bad news about Comey, basically. He is a flawed human being.
PAULA FARIS: Republicans don't like him, and Democrats don't like him.
SUNNY HOSTIN: This is what’s interesting to me. They are doing a hit job on Comey. I myself, you know, having worked at the Justice Department, I thought he was an honorable leader. I think when you have the president of the United States and Republicans trying to take down our law enforcement institutions of the United States, I am horrified by that. It was one of the best jobs I ever had. I was a public servant. I made very little money, but I was representing the people of the United States much like all these people. I'm really disgusted that the RNC has a website Lying Comey. This is a man who is a war-decorated Marine.
FARIS: Here it is. Here it is.
HOSTIN: Former FBI director, former southern district of New York United States attorney. The suggestion somehow that people will believe these horrible things about him because Donald Trump is saying them is shocking to me.
MCCAIN: He hasn't done himself any favors. Again, he has made himself this highly political animal, and I will say there are great people who work for the Justice Department like you who are just doing it because they want to be public servants. I think James Comey wants his own late night show.
HOSTIN: I don’t agree with that.
MCCAIN: I think he wants to be a co-host on The View.
FARIS: Is he in it for the cash? Is he in it for the country?
HOSTIN: I totally disagree with you.
BEHAR: Here's another one. Comey also claims that Trump is, like, a mob boss, quote unquote, who was obsessed with loyalty. In my opinion, even Don Corleonee had loyalty to Clemenza and Tessio. Trump throws everyone under the bus. He has no loyalty to anyone. Maybe Ivanka. That’s about it.

MCCAIN: In some of the clips that have come out, and the excerpts and we have the book and we're reading it over the weekend. In the book, one of the things that came out is him saying that he was crying to President Obama after he had come out about Hillary Clinton's e-mails ten days before the election. So, like, again, are you political? Why is either president's admiration or respect — why are you crying to President Obama in an emotional way if you don't want the validation of presidents? You're supposed to be completely separate, apolitical!
