For Tough Interview on Childhood, Pizza, Clinton Given Questions in Advance

According to a new report by the Washington Free Beacon, Wednesday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign was given the questions in advance to a not-exactly grueling Steve Harvey interview back in February. The interview included childhood pictures of Clinton as a young girl and her thoughts on Chicago style pizza.

Free Beacon journalist Lachlan Markay obtained a campaign memo for the February 24 appearance. It “reveals that Clinton’s staff worked with Harvey to craft the structure of the interview, and briefed the Democratic presidential nominee ahead of time on the precise wording of Harvey’s questions.”

Given the nature of questions, one wouldn’t think that they would need to be provided in advance. Here’s how Harvey came back from one commercial break during the appearance:

STEVE HARVEY: I’m back with Secretary Clinton. She’s definitely known for breaking ground in so many ways in her professional life. But what you might not know is that she has been breaking ground in her personal and professional life since she was a kid. So, let’s go back to when you were just a kid.

Harvey then showed pictures of Clinton as a child. Markay described it this way:

The campaign and the show’s producers also agreed ahead of time on the structure of a segment that would explore Clinton’s biography and achievements.

“During this segment Steve will take a trip down memory lane with YOU to talk about the different moments of YOUR life displayed in the photographs below,” the memo explained photos of Clinton that Harvey pulled up on screen as she discussed her childhood, education, relationship with her husband, and election to the U.S. Senate.

Clinton feigned surprise throughout the interview. “Oh boy. Oh my goodness,” she exclaimed as Harvey displayed a photo her at 12 years old.

At another point, the host, who later endorsed Clinton, offered this not particularly difficult query: “No flip-flopping on this one at all. Deep dish or thin crust?”

Steve Harvey Show

Feb 24

STEVE HARVEY: I’m back with Secretary Clinton. She’s definitely known for breaking ground in so many ways in her professional life. But what you might not know is that she has been breaking ground in her personal and professional life since she was a kid. So, let’s go back to when you were just a kid.

HILLARY CLINTON: Oh, boy. Oh my goodness.

HARVEY: You wanted to be an astronaut.

CLINTON: I did. I was excited about the space program. I was excited about President Kennedy saying we were going to send a man to the moon and bring him back within the decade. I thought it was really incredible that we were going to do that. So, yes. I wrote to NASA.

HARVEY: Really?

CLINTON: I wrote to NASA and I said, “How do you get to be an astronaut?”

HARVEY: They wrote me back saying, “Thank you very much for your interest. At this time, we are not accepting women astronauts.”  And it did, you know, it hurt my feelings. But I could have never been an astronaut anyway. But I was happy that Sally Ride and other women got to be astronauts later on. So, finally that was opened up.
