Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham doesn't think the liberal media's bar is very high for Barack Obama to get wildly favorable reviews after Tuesday's upcoming presidential debate with Mitt Romney.
Appearing on Fox & Friends early Tuesday morning, Ingraham said, "He can sit there playing Angry Birds on his iPhone and I think they’ll go, 'Oh wow, masterful performance'" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
LAURA INGRAHAM: I think that because it was so bad for him in the first debate, I don't think the bar is actually that high for him. I think he's going to get good reviews from his pals in the media if he does a decent job at the debate tonight. That's a little commentary of course on the media slant here. But I think he has to do what he hasn't done, frankly, if he's going to win over any of these independents, which is to say why his second term would be different from his first. How he's going to actually work with both Democrats and Republicans - presumably the Republicans will still be in control of the House of Representatives - so how will the President do what he hasn't done really at all? And I'd like to hear that. How are we not going to pile another $4 trillion of debt, especially when we have these huge problems hitting on Jan 1 with the fiscal cliff and a lot of other tax increases coming?
STEVE DOOCY, CO-HOST: Laura, I think you're right about the comment about the media. You know, the mainstream media can't let Barack Obama lose two in a row.
INGRAHAM: No.
DOOCY: So regardless of what happens tonight, the headline tomorrow would probably be “Barack Obama, Comeback Kid!”
INGRAHAM: Yeah, I mean, I think he can sit there playing Angry Birds on his iPhone and I think they’ll go, “Oh wow, masterful performance.”
GRETCHEN CARLSON, CO-HOST: No, I think, I mean I was shocked at the, I was shocked at the headlines after the last debate.
INGRAHAM: Well, they had to. No, but Gretchen, come on. What were they going to say about that performance?
Exactly. Obama was so off-the-charts awful in the first debate that even the shills on MSNBC couldn't hide their displeasure.
As such, the bar has been so lowered for him that an elementary school debater with a 104 degree fever could get over it.
It therefore seems likely that unless the President literally throws up on himself, he will be declared the winner and the Comeback Kid.
Stay tuned.
