For the second time in about two weeks, the Huffington Post has published bad health news about a high-ranking conservative media member, and has closed comments on the article likely to prevent its readers from disgracefully applauding the event.
UPDATE at 5:40PM: Comments still closed almost five full hours after the announcement.
On July 12, it was the passing of Tony Snow.
On Monday, it was the announcement that columnist Robert Novak has been diagnosed with a brain tumor:
Human Events reports that Robert Novak has been diagnosed with a brain tumor:
Robert Novak was admitted yesterday to a Boston hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In a written statement given to his publisher, Novak said:"On Sunday, July 27, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I have been admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where doctors will soon begin appropriate treatment."
If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see the following: "Comments are closed for this entry."
Given Novak's conservatism, as well as his involvement in the Valerie Plame affair, it seems a metaphysical certitude that HuffPosters would celebrate this announcement in a tremendously disgusting way.
I guess the good folks at HuffPo recognized this, and did the wise thing by closing the comments section.
That said, we at NewsBusters wish Bob a speedy recovery.
