During Sunday’s Meet the Press, NBC’s self-proclaimed “referee” of political “rules,” moderator Chuck Todd demonstrated just which team he favored in the contact sport of American politics. At the end of his program, Todd did some blocking and tackling for the Democrats as he mocked the GOP’s repeal and replace efforts for ObamaCare. His ranting showed just who he’s looking out for, and it’s not the American people.
“We've heard so much talk this week about replacing ObamaCare and with the NCAA tournament, NFL draft and baseball's opening day all coming up, we wondered what would happen if we applied repeal and replace language to improving sports in America,” He announced as he began to rail against the terms used by Republican leaders.
“First it's time to empower players, to choose their own strategy. You can't have a one size fits all system designed by bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.,” he jabbed, “That may work for the Redskins, the Nationals, and the Wizards but not the teams beyond the beltway.” This analogy makes perfect sense coming from someone who reveres the power and control of Government above the ingenuity of individuals.
(That’s not to mention that Todd failed to mention the Washington Capitals, which for some of the NewsBusters analysts was a great offense.)
Todd drove home that idea when quipped that “Next, we need to give athletes greater access to home runs, touchdowns and slam-dunks. These things shouldn't be out of reach for any player. Let players choose the success that's best for them.” By mocking the goal of having people choose the health care plan that’s right for them, it’s mocking the idea that people can make their own choices. In reality, people don’t have the exact same game plan to prosperity. Allowing for choice gives citizens a chance to call an audible that best suits the formation they're facing.
He then showed contempt for free market competition and poked fun at the idea that people should be able to purchase insurance across state lines. “States are the laboratories of democracy. Don't limit the Colts to Indiana or the Dodgers to California. Give teams the freedom they need, after all, the New York Giants play in New Jersey and they've won four Super Bowls,” he pretended to complain.
(He also failed to mention the New York Jets as well, which for this Jets fan was understandable.)
He also tried to discredit the absolute fact that the Congressional Budget Office mislead the country on how successful ObamaCare was going to be:
Now, the Congressional Budget Office is skeptical, but they also predicted the New England Patriots would win the last super bowl. And yes, using CBO scoring they did win, but if we apply dynamic scoring or by our own estimates, the Atlanta Falcons won 59 of the games in 64 minutes. So who’s the real winner here?
Todd blew-off the truth that ObamaCare is unsustainable, with enrollment numbers of young adults failing to prop up the massive expenses of older Americans. “Ultimately, if we do nothing, sports will collapse on its own,” he chided while talking about how 50 percent of teams lose every week, “Sports is in a death spiral. We have to do something.”
This kind of top-down Washington first mentality is why Democrats have been losing big on the federal and state levels for a while now. It ignores how people are being forced to pay skyrocketing premiums with deductibles so large that many can’t afford to see a doctor for the care they need. Todd’s rambling exposed the complete disrespect from Washington for the plight that regular Americans go through every day. Some referee.

Ultimately, if we do nothing, sports will collapse on its own. Consider this, on any given day, half of the teams that play lose. Think of that, 50 percent of the teams are already losing, #sad and it's only going to get worse. Sports is in a death spiral. We have to do something.

It really comes down to a binary choice and this is the best and only chance that we'll get. And one final point, if we don't build a wall in the sports culture, the country is going to be flooded with sports that are popular in other countries, like soccer with all of its nil-nil tie.
