Roe v. Wade was horribly decided, as even some prominent supporters of abortion rights will agree. But for now, it remains the law of the land. And it establishes a constitutional right to abortion. Amazingly, Thomas Roberts appears unaware of that.
On today's Morning Joe, commenting on Mike Huckabee's speech of yesterday on how Dems wrongly accuse Republicans of a "war on women," Roberts twice said "if old white men could get pregnant, abortion would be a constitutional right." View the video after the jump.
Roberts' comment was a variation on the hoary line "if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." But really, how could the rising MSNBC star be so unfamiliar with perhaps the most famous Supreme Court decision of the second half of the 20th century?
Note: Mika Brzezinski also seemed unaware of the meaning of Roe, chiming in to second Roberts' comment: "oh my Lord, absolutely."
STEVE RATTNER: The reason that all they care about is birth control pills is because they can't control their libido. That's what he said.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Democrats act like women can't control their libido.
THOMAS ROBERTS: This is back to the narrative of slut shaming for lack of a better term when it comes to women and if old white men could get pregnant, abortion would be a constitutional right. That's all there is to it. If old white men could get pregnant, abortion would be a constitutional right. That's it.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Oh my Lord, absolutely, on every level.
