On her 12:00 p.m. ET hour show on Friday, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell assured viewers that she could personally “attest” to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “deep faith.” The host made the declaration while applauding the liberal leader’s denial that the impeachment push against President Trump was motivated by Democrats hating him.
Talking to Democratic Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Mitchell bemoaned: “There was quite a moment with Nancy Pelosi yesterday, when a reporter from Sinclair asked her whether she was doing this because she hates the President....And she was really, I mean, very much taken aback by that, offended...”
Mitchell seized on Pelosi’s claim that the attempt to remove Trump from office was “a matter of the Constitution” and that the Speaker, “as a person of deep faith, which we know to be the case with her, really took offense at anyone questioning.”
“What was the reaction within the caucus to that very strong statement by the Speaker yesterday?” the anchor eagerly wondered. Lofgren responded in part:
...she did state the truth...A lot of people don’t understand the role that Catholic faith plays in Nancy Pelosi’s life. I do, and many of us in the Democratic caucus do. But I understood where she was coming from.
Mitchell seemed to count herself among those in the Democratic caucus: “I can attest to that, just from knowing her [Pelosi] off-camera over the years and decades, in fact. But that was just a moment, and it was a moment that really affected a lot of people.”
Later in the program, Mitchell teased even more fawning coverage of Pelosi: “And coming up, backwards and in high heels, Nancy Pelosi out-stepping the President, out-dancing the President after he taunts her with claims she had a ‘nervous fit.’ Do say? You don’t want to miss her response...”
In the segment that followed, the anchor played a soundbite of Pelosi denying to “hate” the President. Mitchell then cheered: “Take that! House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she prays for the President.”
The idea that a liberal pro-abortion journalist like Andrea Mitchell would “attest” to the “deep faith” of a liberal pro-abortion politician like Nancy Pelosi is truly beyond parody.

ANDREA MITCHELL: There was quite a moment with Nancy Pelosi yesterday, when a reporter from Sinclair asked her whether she was doing this because she hates the President, parroting what Doug Collins had said earlier on Fox News, the ranking Republican, of course, on Judiciary. And she was really, I mean, very much taken aback by that, offended, making the point that to her mind, all of her disagreements with the President on policy, whether it’s on DACA or separation of children, that those – gun laws – those issues are for the electorate, that should be policies to be determined in the following November. But that this is a matter of the Constitution and that she, as a person of deep faith, which we know to be the case with her, really took offense at anyone questioning. What was the reaction within the caucus to that very strong statement by the Speaker yesterday?
REP. ZOE LOFGREN [D-CA]: Well, I – you know, she did state the truth, which is we have many policy disagreements with President Trump, that’s for the election. Impeachment is about whether the President’s conduct threatens the Constitution, the national interest, the good constitutional order, and that’s why we are proceeding. It’s what our oath of office requires us to do. A lot of people don’t understand the role that Catholic faith plays in Nancy Pelosi’s life. I do, and many of us in the Democratic caucus do. But I understood where she was coming from.
MITCHELL: I can attest to that, just from knowing her off-camera over the years and decades, in fact. But that was just a moment, and it was a moment that really affected a lot of people. Also, the President’s response that she was having, you know, “a nervous fit.” Did that seemed sort of gender-related to you?
LOFGREN: The President projects. You know, I understand he said he doesn’t believe that she prays for him. I guess what that means is that he doesn’t pray. That she’s nervous – she’s not a nervous person, but he may be getting a little nervous.

NANCY PELOSI: I don’t hate anyone, I was raised in a way that is – a heart full of love and always pray for the President, and I still pray for the President. I pray for the President all the time. So don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that.
MITCHELL: Take that! House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she prays for the President. He’s not buying it, taking to Twitter yesterday to claim Pelosi had, quote, “a nervous fit,” adding, “I don’t believe her, not even close.”
In a CNN town hall last night, Pelosi fired back.
PELOSI: The President is a master at projecting. When he calls somebody else nervous, he’s the nervous one. When he suspects that somebody’s not praying, he’s probably not praying.
MITCHELL: Joining me now, former Congressman Steve Israel, Democrat of New York, and Rick Tyler, MSNBC political analyst and former adviser to Senator Ted Cruz, and also former Speaker Newt Gingrich, to both. Steve Israel, you know the Speaker well, you worked with her well. Her match-up against the President yesterday?
STEVE ISRAEL: Yeah, Nancy Pelosi does not have nervous fits. She has nerves of steel. And you saw that yesterday.

MITCHELL: And there’s nobody better, Rick Tyler, at a whip count. She always knows where the votes are, rarely surprised. And remember that moment where she stood up in the Cabinet Room against the President and you had this picture of all men at the table and she stands up and walks out. And it went viral for a very good reason.
