On MSNBC's All In, host Chris Hayes took a break from incessantly covering former President Donald Trump and his legal woes to mark the one-year anniversary of the passage of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act. During this commemoration, Hayes urged Democrats to run on their record of over three percent inflation in the upcoming 2024 presidential and congressional elections. Hayes seemed to think that just because inflation has slowly crept down from its forty-year high that means American voters are going to be impressed that inflation is higher than when Biden took office.
After bragging about how inflation had come down and laughably credited the Inflation Reduction Act, Hayes made the point that "if it were a Republican President who signed a bill called the Inflation Reduction Act, and then inflation dropped by five points in one year, it would be all they ever talked about."
He then gave Democrats some political advice: "I understand you're kind of reluctant to bring up inflation when it’s still a little higher than anyone would like it to be, but 3.2 percent is a lot less than 8.3 percent and everyone knows that. Go and tell everyone. We passed the Inflation Reduction Act and over the next year, inflation plummeted."
"Think about it this way, if you passed the Inflation Reduction Act and inflation had gone up five points, your goose would be cooked. Republicans would talk about nothing else. We passed the inflation reduction act and inflation plummeted. It even fits on a bumper sticker," Hayes added.
According to Fox Business, "The consumer price index for January 2021, when President Biden took office, was 1.4%", so Hayes urging Democrats to run on their record of driving inflation up to almost nine percent and then down to 3.2 percent, will not work out the way he thinks it will.
Good luck!
