If you want to be a "hero" to Time magazine you need a left-wing political agenda that includes:
- Trying to stop climate change
- support for taxpayer funded stem cell research
- support for radical gun control
- support for subsidized housing
- OR raising taxes by 18 percent sometime during your term
Time's Michael Grunwald gushed about New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) calling them "New Action Heroes" on June 15.
The article, which labeled both Republicans as "social liberals" praised the way the politicians embraced left-wing positions on domestic issues, especially radical environmentalism.
"Look at global warming. Washington rejected the Kyoto Protocol, but more than 500 U.S. mayors have pledge to meet its emissions-reduction standards, none more aggressively than Bloomberg. His PlanNYC calls for a 30% cut in greenhouse gases by 2030," wrote Time.
Likewise, Grunwald lionized the Terminator.
“With his Hummers, his private plane and his conspicuous delight in conspicuous consumption, Schwarzenegger is an unlikely environmentalist, but he's become a global salesman for the war on carbon. His message, as usual, is that the naysayers are wrong: you can clean up the environment and still have a growing economy with big houses and big cars.”
Other liberal actions by the two "heroes" were noted by the article. Time credited Bloomberg with making a tough decision to raise taxes by an incredible 18 percent, as well as the hostile takeover of the city's schools, leaving out the fact that it hasn't significantly increased student performance. The magazine also lauded the $3 billion referendum on stem cell research that Schwarzenegger pushed.
Time Magazine has campaigned on the issue of global warming in recent weeks. Last month, the magazine featured former vice-president and global warming activist Al Gore in its cover story.
