On the Monday, June 2 edition of The View, in a rare moment, the notably liberal hosts took to blasting liberal actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Charlize Theron for the ludicrous, offensive comments they each made recently which seemed to minimize the real trials and hardships of military veterans and rape victims respectively.
Theron lamented that when someone like herself starts reading negative comments about herself online “you start feeling raped.” while Paltrow compared negative online comments to suffering through combat, because in war “you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing.” The ladies of The View were not amused and spent some time warning Paltrow, specifically, of comparing her posh life as an actress to the rigors of battle.
Host Jenny McCarthy read a tweet from Cindy McCain who who was less than pleased with Paltrow's comments,
“Gwyneth Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My two sons servicing in the military should talk to her.”
Co-host Sherri Shepherd read a comment from a Green Beret in the Army,
“You know what is dehumanizing, Miss Paltrow? The fact you’d even consider that your life as an a-list celebrity reading internet comments could compare to war and what is endured on the battlefield. So let me be the first to burst your bubble: a long line at Starbucks, your driver being three minutes late, a scuff mark on your $1200 shoes and a mean tweet do not constitute difficulties in the eyes of a soldier.”
Goldberg sort of defended the actresses by noting that everyone has a moment where they get a little worked up and say something they might not mean. The hosts noted they had all been there and it even happens to them on the show. Their word of advice, “think before you talk.”

06/02/14WHOOPIE GOLDBERG: How about this? I’m mean this is crazy. This is a little nutty. Just bear with us. Charlize Theron, and Gwyneth Paltrow, seem to have pissed off a lot of people for the comparisons they seem to have made about being targets of negative online comments. Charlize compared it to being raped and Gwyneth likened it to war said you go through this bloody dehumanizing thing -- and then something is defined.. I don’t know what the hell.
JENNY MCCARTHY: They used different analogies, number one.
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I mean literally Cindy McCain got on Gwyneth Paltrow because you remember, Gwyneth Paltrow was the one that said working moms have it easier than her being on a 16-hour day set. But now sergeant first class Bryan Sikes, he suffered a broken neck in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. He said, “You know what is dehumanizing, Miss Paltrow? The fact you’d even consider that your life as an a-list celebrity reading internet comments could compare to war and what is endured on the battlefield. So let me be the first to burst your bubble: a long line at Starbucks, your driver being three minutes late, a scuff mark on your $1200 shoes and a mean tweet do not constitute difficulties in the eyes of a soldier.”
GOLDBERG: There we are!
MCCARTHY: And Cindy McCain also came back with something: “Gwyneth Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My two sons servicing in the military should talk to her.” You know what I think, I think Gwenyth and her brain may have consciously...
SHEPHERD: We have our freedoms. There’s just some things you cannot relate too.
GOLDBERG: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Who among us has not stepped in. So I’m saying, before we start saying, hey, you -- just take it from us. Think before you talk, honey, because we get it in the -- people screaming at us.
SHEPHERD: It's like bloody war at this war. Please don’t tweet me y’all..
ABBY HUNTSMAN: That’s the ironic part of this, she was talking about being scrutinized in the media, not even thinking about what she was actually saying.
GOLDBERG: No, she wasn't cause she was... you know.. People lose their mind sometimes.
