New Daily Show Host: No FNC Bashing, But Same Old Liberal Politics

On the Monday night debut, with a new host, of Comedy Central’s Daily Show, Trevor Noah didn’t display previous host Jon Stewart’s obsession with the Fox News Channel, but he did continue Stewart’s liberal politics.

Noah, who promised at the top of the September 28 show that he would “continue the war on bullshit” (a phrase also highlighted on his cc.com Web page), soon delivered a line favorably comparing socialist Bernie Sanders with the Pope before offering very unoriginal ridicule of “radical conservatives” over the departure of House Speaker John Boehner.

After a clip of Pope Francis asserting “climate change is a problem” and, “As the son of an immigrant family, I am happy to be a guest in this country, which was largely built by such families,” Noah quipped: “Hates inequality and climate change, loves immigrants. He’s like a young Bernie Sanders.”

Picking up on how news of Boehner’s resignation was cheered at the Values Voter Summit, Noah called it “a gathering of some of the radical conservatives who shut down the government over ObamaCare in 2013 and the same people who wanted to shut it down again over Planned Parenthood this very week. And for Boehner this was the last straw.”

A news clip played of a reporter recalling how “Boehner has clashed with unruly hard line conservatives who felt he was too willing to compromise.”

Noah then offered ridicule: “What they meant is at all willing to compromise. You see, for this faction, even John Boehner, the man once ranked the eighth most conservative man in Congress, wasn’t right wing enough. It’s like crack telling meth that it’s not addictive enough. ‘Yo, man, you got to step your game up, crystal, you make teeth fall out, big deal. I put down Whitney Houston.’”
