If you thought a ditzy celebrity attempting to exert their political will upon you was obnoxious enough, imagine a foreign born star doing just the same. On Thursday's Late Show With Stephen Colbert, aired early Friday morning, Canadian-bred Full Frontal host Samantha Bee (who now holds dual citizenship with the US) longed for a process of impeachment in the United States that replicates Canada’s vote of no confidence.
Without missing a beat, Colbert kicked off the segment by wondering how Bee feels about the impeachment fiasco: “I'm mellow about it. I'm glad it's happening in some…”
Colbert failed to allow Bee to complete her answer as he chimed in with: “The last time you were here, you said that looking for the Mueller Report to fix what was wrong with America is like looking for bangs.” To which Bee clarified: “To fix your personality. And your life. And they will never do what you want them to.”
Of course, the underlying suggestion of Bee’s commentary is the idea that America is in need of “fixing.”
Colbert’s next inquiry was enough to make any person fall into a fit of laughter as he asked about Canada’s governmental structure and its version of ‘Impeachment”:
Is there something like Impeachment in Canada? Let's just imagine a crazy world where Trudeau ever did anything wrong. Is there- what's the recourse up there?
Perhaps Colbert missed Trudeau’s black face scandal. Bee explained Canada’s termination procedure for government officials: "Well, it's a parliamentary system so it's completely different."
For the man who seems to know it all, Colbert was flummoxed as to what the definition of a parliamentary system of government is. Bee expounded:
We have a vote of non-confidence. Everybody kind of comes together. It's very civilized process by comparison I would say… We're like we don't believe you can do this anymore. We're not sure about you sir. You will get on out of here.
Colbert proclaimed: "Trump would have been gone six years ago because even the people who support him don't think he can do it."
If they so choose, Colbert and Bee could be the first celebrities to make good on their promise to move to Canada during the Trump presidency.
