It would appear the media war on Christmas is far from over. As Stephen Colbert exemplified on Tuesday’s The Late Show, no event in American life, not even a holiday, is immune from political infusion.
Colbert had no qualms in letting the audience know of his excitement for Wednesday’s Impeachment hearings, considering his fan base shares in the anticipation alongside of him. To make the “casual” transition from cold weather to impeachment, Colbert commenced:
A snap in the air means we are heading into my favorite season, cause it's Impeachment eve. Tomorrow -- like little children! Tomorrow is the first day of televised impeachment hearings. I'm so excited, I won't be able to sleep…
The absurdity continued as Colbert recruited his staff to bring out his prized possession to a cheering audience: “And I've already decorated my impeachment tree. Bring it out, boys!”
He seemed to hope the peach-encrusted Christmas tree would be a staple in every liberal household this holiday season. Colbert then shared the features of the tree with alacrity:
There you go. Fantastic. Of course -- this is the impeachment tree. It's got all of the traditional ornaments. The star on the top is the transcript of Trump's "Perfect phone call." We've got plenty of ornaments too. Let's see, we've got the quid pro snow. I got some pictures of some of the other Presidents' who have been impeached.
As if that description was not nauseating enough, Colbert proceeded to make what was one of his most vile “jokes” to date, pointing to a crude ornament adorned on the tree: “Oh and up here my favorite, it's Lindsey Graham's balls. He's not using them these days.”
It would be shocking and appalling, but when it comes to Colbert’s disdain for President Trump and Republicans as a whole, it would seem as though nothing is off limits.
The destruction of a cherished holiday in favor of political fervor reinforces the idea that hatred for President Trump truly does consume the late-night liberals 365 days a year.
