The Democratic Primary race for 2020 officially kicked off Wednesday night with the first presidential debate on MSNBC, NBC, and Telemundo. The coterie of lefty late-night hosts immediately began live broadcasting in the aftermath of the debate. Among them was The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, who made it obvious who he believed won the night.

FiveThirtyEight senior political writer Perry Bacon Jr. determined the winner of the night to be Elizabeth Warren.

“I think cause she's got the momentum right now. She's done well. She's been gaining in the polls. So you don't want to make a mistake, forget something, say something dumb and I think she did --- and she actually was pretty good to be honest, you know, not just --- not that she wasn't bad, she was actually pretty good in terms of explaining her policies really well,” he rambled.

Noah agreed with the assessment, adding his own commentary of the ‘swag’ Warren possessed on the stage. “Yeah, she seemed solid. She laid out her policy ideas, she knew what she was coming in to do and genuinely I feel like she had a certain swag about her where she wasn't afraid of-of trying to talk over people. She wasn't. She was just in command of that stage.”

PERRY BACON JR.: So the big thing is the worst you can do in a debate is screw up. And nobody really screwed up tonight, particularly Elizabeth Warren who is doing really well in the polls did not make any big mistakes. She did not forget how many agencies she wants to close for example. She did not screw up and that was big for her.

TREVOR NOAH: Do you think that was the main thing for --- for Elizabeth Warren coming in, was just like don't lose your top spot?

BACON: That's what I think cause she's got the momentum right now. She's done well. She's been gaining in the polls. So you don't want to make a mistake, forget something, say something dumb and I think she did --- and she actually was pretty good to be honest, you know, not just --- not that she wasn't bad, she was actually pretty good in terms of explaining her policies really well.

NOAH: Right, no. Yeah she seemed solid. She laid out her policy ideas, she knew what she was coming in to do and genuinely I feel like she had a certain swag about her where she wasn't afraid of --- of trying to talk over people. She wasn't. She was just in command of that stage. It seems Warren should be taking a victory lap in the eyes of Noah. The question of how long her star will shine remains to be seen.
