On Tuesday, Media Research Center Research Director Rich Noyes appeared on Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg Show to discuss the ongoing internal investigation at NBC News surrounding Brian Williams as well as the recent riots taking place throughout the city of Baltimore.
Speaking to Malzberg, Noyes argued that NBC was being extremely “cynical” in arguing that the only obstacle to bringing Brian Williams back to the anchor chair would be the “media and other reporters” and that the public would support his return.
Noyes maintained that the real issue is “how does Brian Williams explain and apologize making these fabrications, these exaggerations? One story, you know, you got a little mixed up, you got confused, but 11 stories?”
The MRC Research Director went on to stress that it’s “going to be awfully difficult for somebody that’s going to make it their job to tell people supposedly true factual news every night, hold candidates accountable. I think it’s still difficult to see how he can do this and maintain any credibility, you know, outside a few core loyalists and viewers like that, and so I think he’s got some real problems.”
Turning to the recent riots in Baltimore, Noyes identified the recent extreme comments on outlets such as CNN in which one of it's contributers justified the riots as yet another example of “not a shining moment for the media.”
Noyes also called out the “fictions” such as the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” line in Ferguson that the media “have been built up through irresponsible press coverage over the months that, you know, make each situation more emotional than the one before and it’s just a snowball effect in the wrong direction.”
