Holiday Trolling: Al-Jazeera Mocks America's Greatness for July 4

July 7th, 2015 10:46 PM

Al Jazeera’s digital media platform AJ+ decided to mock Americans by posting a video just one day before Independence Day.  The video, facetiously titled “American’s Show Why USA Is The #1 Country In The World”, portrayed Americans as bigoted hicks that do nothing but pop pills, eat cheese and watch porn.

AJ+ did talk about the “good” things in the U.S. – such as America being the world leader in Olympic medals, Nobel laureates and billionaires, and actors.  AJ+ can now add  Women World Cup winners for the THIRD time to the list!  After noting the aforementioned, they went on to include other things America was “#1” in; the most incarcerated people in the world, the most obese, the most pill-poppers, the most guns, drones, racism, teen pregnancies and credit card debt.

Many took to AJ+’s YouTube page calling the video mean-spirited and expressed outrage that the video was released the day before Independence Day.

The executive producer of the video, David Cohen stated, ““I don’t think we compare. But we definitely take shots at other countries.”  Cohen was kind enough to mention not only one, but TWO videos about beheadings in Saudi Arabia and a women’s protest in Turkey. Of course, there was no mocking tone used in those videos, after-all, the fact that Al-Jazeera is owned by Qatar, they could easily be stoned to death for mocking under Shariah law.

Yes.  The same digital media channel that is part of Al-Jazeera, is owned by a country governed by Shariah law – where stoning is legal punishment, women are second-class citizens, flogging is used as punishment for alcohol consumption and/or sexual relations, and apostasy and homosexuality are crimes punishable by death.

Speaking of women as second class citizens, Al Jazeera has two lawsuits from former employees accusing them of discrimination against non-Arab and female employees, and the other from an employee who accused them of being subjected to “anti-American” and “anti-Semitic” comments in the workplace, and that executives were biased against women.

If anything, this video shows the kind of perception people around the world have about Americans and that Aj+, which has offices in the U.S. and employs many Americans, feeds into that perception.  Shame on them. Let them try mocking Qatar and see what happens, then maybe they will see why the United States is the #1 country in the world.
