Unfortunately, this is another story where doctors abused a young, vulnerable and confused teenager and altered her life for the worst.
A 21-year-old Nebraska woman named Luka Hein filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine, alleging negligence and abuse when she was a teen when doctors cut off her healthy breasts to "affirm" a mental delusion.
It started in 2015, when Hein’s parents went through a divorce. While she needed mental health assistance to process the emotions of such a drastic change in her family dynamic, Hein instead said she was “swept up in a social contagion,” per her lawsuit. Hein sought after anything around which to base her life and distract her from the trial she was enduring.
The teen was placed on antipsychotic medication, but still experienced a downward spiral of her mental health. In 2017, she was even placed in a partial care psychiatric program, and during that time found herself being groomed online.
She was preyed upon by an older man online and was “enticed … to send him sexually explicit pictures,” WOWT News 6reported. When Hein didn’t want to send him images, she said he even threatened her. Law enforcement finally got involved, but it didn't end Hein's trauma.
The teen was then prescribed a higher dose of the antipsychotic medication and given an antidepressant, still not solving her mental health crisis. In January of 2018, at just 15 years old, the teen stumbled upon a gender clinic after going through puberty and feeling uncomfortable. Immediately, the clinic diagnosed her with “gender identity disorder.” Doctors encouraged her to pursue a gender change and told her parents that she’d be suicidal if they didn’t proceed with these life altering “treatments."
As noted by the lawsuit, from there, her breast removal was fast-tracked, and the young teen’s coerced consent was apparently enough. She was also placed on testosterone for four years, causing irreversible damage. At one point, she said a doctor even recommended she get a hysterectomy, the NY Post noted. Luckily, she didn't go through with the procedure.
According to the lawsuit, in 2022 the patient stopped taking testosterone after experiencing “heart irregularities, aching joints and pelvic pain,” making it challenging to do even menial tasks like get out of bed.
This past January, the now 21-year-old Hein declared that she was no longer interested in identifying as a man.
“I was going through the darkest and most chaotic time in my life, and instead of being given the help I needed, these doctors affirmed that chaos into reality,” Hein told Daily Mail.
“I don’t think kids can ever consent to having full bodily functions taken away at a young age before they even know what that means,” Hein added.
Hein is now seeking financial compensation and demanding the doctors who ruined her body and her life to be held accountable. In her suit, she claims doctors were “negligent in failing to question Luka’s self-diagnosis, instead ‘affirming’ her toward irreversible chemical and surgical solutions.”
Time will tell what happens with the lawsuit, but the bottom line is that yet another child’s life and body was butchered, and for the sake of what? Is she better off now? No. She’s worse off. Medical “professionals” and offices need to stop experimenting on children. This feels like we’re living in a dystopian world.
