As they did on election night, some celebrities began to moan of doomsday and dystopia on December 19, when the electors gathered to officially clinch who would become America’s 45th president.
Monday morning, comedian Patton Oswalt predicted the 2017 apocalypse to come, tweeting:
"Every future dystopia movie should have Trump's inauguration edited in before the opening credits."

Other entertainers directly targeted the electors. “Today the Electoral College meets to solemnly ignore their duty,” wrote actor and comedian Michael Ian Black. Documentarian Michael Moore then joined in the scolding. “Electors: you're not seriously going to appoint a president whom the majority of Americans on Election Day said they didn't want?” he tweeted. Then, likely remembering that kindness would get him farther, he reminded Republican electors of his offer to pay their fines if they voted conscience over Trump.
But as the day wore on, the filmmaker seemed to lose hope. “He’s not president for four and a half weeks. Next idea?” Moore tweeted.
The best idea, according to Star Trek actor George Takei, was resistance. “Sorry. We’re not going to ‘get over it.’ We’re going to fight. They’ll have to pry every right, every progress, every gain out of our hands,” he tweeted, after posting a picture of the popular vote tally with the caption “Never Forget.”
It is safe to say that Hollywood will never forget this historic upset.
