CW Drama: Priest Justifies Sex With Married Parishioner, 'We're Only Human'

Unfortunately, it wasn’t sordid enough for The CW’s Dynasty to include a scene with a priest and a parishioner kissing last week. This week’s episode, airing April 17, included the two consummating their relationship.

After last week’s kiss, Cristal Carrington (Daniella Alonso) and Father Caleb Collins (Wil Traval) agreed that they must end their budding sexual relationship. In the episode titled “You Make Being a Priest Sound Like Something Bad”, Cristal and Father Collins agree that he must honor his vow of celibacy and she must honor her wedding vows. The priest told Cristal that he wouldn't attend her charity foundation’s formal gala event, though he was a co-host, in order to distance himself from her.

Caleb: You look great.

Cristal: Thank you. But I need to talk with you in private.

Caleb: Yeah, well, I actually have something I want to tell you... Anyway.

Cristal: What is it?

Caleb: Here.

Cristal: Is everything okay?

Caleb: Um... I can't stop thinking about our kiss.

Cristal: Neither can I.

Caleb: It was a mistake. I-- It was a great mistake. But it was a mistake, nevertheless.

Cristal: I know. Maybe it's the Catholic in me. How can one kiss... Make me feel so guilty?

Caleb: Because we both know that it felt like more. But I, uh... I took a vow of celibacy. So we need to stop whatever's going on here before it goes any further.

Cristal: I agree. I took vows, too. And I owe it to my marriage to uphold them.

Caleb: Which would be easier if I don't go to the gala.

Cristal: I think that's a good idea. Because I decided I should tell Blake about this.

Caleb: Well, you have to do what's right for you, and I understand the need to feel absolved. Just make sure you're considering how this will make Blake feel.

Cristal didn’t tell Blake about the kiss and soon after that conversation, she discovered that he had been unfaithful to her with a business colleague. Cristal went to Father Collins about her discovery. He ended up planting further suspicion against Blake by asking her if Blake would do anything for her:

Cristal: His heart rate went from 60 to 155 in the middle of the afternoon.

Caleb: How do you know that?

Cristal: Blake and I synced our exercise apps as a way to motivate each other. So I looked at it and saw the spike when he was supposedly reading contracts. My husband had sex with Laura Van Kirk while I-- we were planning the foundation's event. It's humiliating. What we did was wrong, but different.

Caleb: Technically, cheating is cheating... ...But you're right. It is different. So, what are you gonna do now?

Cristal: I don't know. It can't be a coincidence that something happened between them the same day he got C.A. Back from her.

Caleb: What, you think that he slept with her to get his company back?

Cristal: Maybe. I just know he'll do anything for Carrington Atlantic.

Caleb: But would he do anything for you?

Yes, that is what Blake did, but it didn’t excuse Cristal’s bad behavior. Father Collins ended up going to the gala after all. He couldn’t stay away. He even danced a slow dance that was meant to be one that Cristal and Blake danced together at the end of the evening’s festivities. Blake was overseas on business and didn’t attend the gala.

That dance turned into a scene with the priest and Cristal having sex in front of a fireplace in one of the Carrington Manor’s rooms. Afterward, Cristal asked, “What did we do? You broke your vows, I broke mine. You said our kiss was a mistake.” Father Collins replied, “Yeah, well, we make mistakes. We're only human.”

So much for hoping the kiss last week would put an end to the potential for a full-on affair between these two. This looks like it will just be only the beginning.
