Stephen Colbert’s lame weekly animated attack on President Trump and his administration is quickly running out of steam. A government shutdown is caused by President Trump’s inability to focus on the budget resolution bill in the March 25 episode of Our Cartoon President on Showtime.
The March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. opens the episode and during this event, Trump addresses the crowd and assumes they are there to celebrate Putin’s victory in his recent re-election. Hardy har har.
He says he understands the desire not to get shot and then boasts of being the first Republican president to propose common sense gun reform. That was until NRA Executive Vice-President Wayne LaPierre “kicked my door off its hinges and threatened to remove my organs.” He decides the issue isn’t so important, but there is one issue he is willing to die for – ending the Russia investigation. He focuses instead on firing special counsel Robert Mueller and tries to enlist the help of the people at the rally. He shows a celebrity-inspired PSA he made to get them motivated to walk out of school to demand Mueller’s firing.
Trump: Hey kids, it’s DJT. There's problems in the streets... Facebook jackin' your stats... George Soros bribing you to be crisis actors. But you know what's really messed up? Robert Mueller. Robert Mueller He wants to lock me up just for being myself. So it's time to show him what's up. A week from Monday, we're going to walk out of school and proclaim that we want to fire Robert Mueller.
Donald Trump, Jr.: Fire Robert Mueller
General Kelly: We need to act.
Mike Pence: It ends today.
Sec. Mnuchin: Robert Mueller's super poor.
Ivanka: Fire Robert Mueller.
Karen Pence: Fire Robert Mueller.
Eric Trump: Fire Robert Mueller!
Steve Doocy: Fire Robert Muh-er!
Jared Kushner: Robert Mueller.
Sean Hannity: Robert Mueller!
General McMaster: Robert Mule-er.
Stephen Miller: Fire Robert Mueller!
Melania: I'm the First Lady.
Trump: Fire Robert Mueller.
In the meantime, the Congressional leaders – Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer – try to work together in a bipartisan way on the budget. Sure, like that is happening. That was the funniest part of the whole show. There are attempts for the four to become friends and even a hot tub scene which creepily ends with Chuck Schumer declaring his desire to be a little pervy with them. Yuck. That’s an image none of us need.
After there are protests at the White House and a bizarre scene of Air Force One pulling up to a KFC so Trump can get his craving for chicken quenched because Trump's food habits and health are another liberal obsession. Budget protesters find him there and overturn the airplane. You know, like Antifa and their ilk overturn cars during their riots, er, protests.
Finally, the president understands the urgency of the matter and decides to work with Congress to get a budget deal when he discovers his cable television has been shut down. It ends with him signing a deal to keep the government open for fifteen more days. That was about the most realistic part of the whole show.
As I said, the show just gets more lame with each episode. I cannot imagine anyone watching and actually laughing out loud or thinking any of this is clever. How sad that Trump Derangement Syndrome has reduced us to this drivel.
