House Intelligence Committee ranking member, California Rep. Adam Schiff, was the political guest on the May 12 episode of Netflix’s Chelsea, titled “Answer Me This.” Schiff serves as the House Select Intelligence Committee co-chair in the investigation of President Trump’s possible ties to Russia. While discussing the reasons given for the dismissal of F.B.I. Director James Comey, Schiff said, “It just doesn’t pass the smell test.”
The Democrats in Congress were all for the dismissal of Comey until President Trump did it – then suddenly, according to them, we are in a Constitutional crisis. Schiff admits that Trump had the authority to fire Comey but questions, “Should he exercise his authority, when he has a very clear conflict of interest?” He, like most other Democrats (and a few Republicans) calls for an independent prosecutor. And, then, the truth came out as Chelsea admitted that she and the Democrats wanted Comey fired after the Hillary Clinton email investigation but not once he disclosed the investigation of the Trump campaign. She admitted it was partisan hackery in order to head off being called a hypocrite.
At one point in their discussion, Chelsea asked Schiff of Trump, “What’s wrong with him?” The response from Schiff was, “How much time do you have?” That is how lame this conversation was. Schiff claims that Trump ran his businesses using “bluster, half truth, and no truth” and that is how he’s running the government, too. He calls for the GOP and Democrats to fight back using marches, town hall participation, phone calls, mail, etc. This is when poor leftist Chelsea uses a standard line –“I feel scared.” (Ironically she’s wearing a shirt that says, “Stronger Than Fear.”) Bless her heart. “This is fascist behavior…Our Constitution is being challenged and rights can be taken away from us.” Hyperbole, much?
I noticed that Schiff didn’t dispel the charge of fascism, though. Democrats like that label for Republicans. He hopes the “outcry will force this administration, this Deputy Attorney General, to hire an independent counsel to do this investigation right.” Chelsea and Schiff were happy to praise the elections results in South Korea and France, though. Of South Korea, Chelsea said, “They elected a liberal.”
It seems to me Schiff exercised questionable judgment when he agreed to appear with Chelsea to publicly criticize the judgment and trustfulness of his committee’s target – President Trump.
During the show’s last interview segment, Chelsea spoke with Neil deGrasse Tyson, every liberal’s favorite science guy other than Bill Nye. During their conversation, she said, “I’m a happy idiot.” I laughed as she described herself to the audience without noting the irony. I don’t know about the happy part, but I’ll agree on the idiot part any day.
