In 2020, only 51.3 million children lived with two parents in their home, and over 18 million children do not have a father in that home. Naturally, this kind of familial instability can lead to a host of problems for the next generation of adults, something Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis tried to address by signing HB 7065 on Monday.
The legislation will provide a $70 million dollar fund that will hopefully reverse some of those effects. The money will be channeled through the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and will help fund programs that aim to help fathers and families in the Sunshine State.
Former Indianapolis Colts head coach and current Sunday Night Football analyst Tony Dungy voiced his support for the legislation, and was even by DeSantis' side during a media session when the governor announced the impact he hopes the legislation will have.

"This is going to be tremendous and such a good help to fathers in Florida," Dungy a Tampa native, said. "This bill is so important. I want to thank all of the men and women that have been behind this. It is going to allow groups like All Pro Dad and people like those here today to do great things for our fathers here in Florida."
As always, the liberal Twitterverse reared their ugly heads to try to shame Dungy for his actions, with Keith Olbermann leading the way. Many tried to highlight the fact that because Dungy said at one point that he would not want an openly gay player on a team he coached and then supported this legislation that his character is all of a sudden in question.
Spoiler Alert: I worked with him. Tony Dungy's reputation is not spotless, and his Michael Sam comments disqualified him from being considered an example of loving fatherhood. https://t.co/WCjgSOPWn0

I used to feel bad for Tony Dungy.

I don’t anymore. https://t.co/ojqIyomahW
As always, this is just another installment of unhinged individuals with nothing better to do with their time than tear someone else down.
Dungy never said that he hated gay people, he just would not want to deal with all the drama that comes with having a gay player on your team (Carl Nassib, anyone?). And to equate his stance on a personnel decision with his ability to be a good father is absolutely preposterous on every level.
If Dungy sees any of this, he should not give any of the criticism a second thought.
