Former MLB All-Star Takes Stand Against Houston Transgender Bathroom Ordinance. Media Flip Out.

During his time as a major leaguer former Astro and Rice Owl Lance Berkman was affectionately known as “Big Puma” to the Houston faithful, a comical ode developed by Berkman himself to get people to stop calling him “Fat Elvis.” However, after Berkman’s recent statement in defiance of the latest transgender insanity forced upon society, Berkman is likely to be known around Houston City Hall by a four-letter title other than “Puma.”

Appearing in an ad in opposition to Prop 1, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (gotta love the way these laws are advertised right? Who would ever vote against something called “Hero?” Who doesn’t want to be a Hero?) Berkman made the case that the ill-conceived Prop could potentially put all women living in Houston at great risk:

“Vote no on Proposition 1. No men in women’s bathrooms. No boys in girls’ showers or locker rooms. I’m Lance Berkman. I played professional baseball for 15 years, but my family is more important. My wife and I have four daughters. Proposition 1 — the bathroom ordinance — would allow troubled men to enter women’s public bathrooms, showers and locker rooms. This would violate their privacy and put them in harm’s way. That’s just wrong. We must prevent this potential danger by closing women’s restrooms to men rather than waiting for a crime to happen. Under Proposition 1, if restaurants, businesses and sports facilities don’t allow a man into a women’s restroom, they would be subject to penalties and fines.”

Seems like a reasonable position, right? Wrong!

The sports media put the squeeze play (I’ll show myself out) on immediately, as if the 6-time All-Star had completely flipped his wig. Deadspin’s Samer Kalaf presented Berkman as the face of discrimination. Hardball Talk’s Craig Calcaterra characterized Berkman’s stance as indulging in “disgusting stereotypes,” while Outsports’ Cyd Zeigler charged Berkman with using the “fear of rapists” to turn public opinion against the proposition.

Which is of course hilarious considering that it’s the left and their allies in the feminist movement who have spent the last 40 years teaching us that men are nothing but sex-driven potential rapists seeking to assert their misogynistic dominance.  And now they want to grant these would-be predators unfettered access to restrooms and showers filled with naked and vulnerable women?

Of course Berkman would react that way. The left clearly taught him well.
