Maher Responds to Limbaugh: I Can Call Palin C-word Because 'I Don't Have Sponsors - I'm on HBO'
On his radio program Friday, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh called for President Obama to return the $1 million that Bill Maher gave to his Super PAC due to the vulgar things the comedian has called Sarah Palin.
Maher haplessly countered this on HBO's Real Time later in the evening saying, "Rush, I don't have sponsors - I'm on HBO" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary, vulgarity warning):
Not surprisingly, Maher began his monologue Friday with the media-created birth control controversy and Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke.
That of course led to him bringing up the current liberal hysteria over Limbaugh joking about her being a slut and wanting her to make videos for taxpayers funding her birth control.
"Today, Rush Limbaugh tried to drag me into this bulls--t he caused."
Maher then explained that he had recently given $1 million to pro-Obama Super PAC Priorities USA Action, and "Rush Limbaugh says I have to give that money back, or he has to give that money back - it's not really him, it's a Super PAC - anybody, somebody's got to give it back because, you know, I sometimes call Sarah Palin a bad name."
A bad name? As NewsBusters reported, he called her a "dumb twat" and a "cunt."
He continued, "This analogy breaks down in so many places I can't even begin except let's just start with this - Rush, I don't have sponsors - I'm on HBO."
Predictably, the idiots in Maher's audience applauded this.
So, the line in the sand on decency is only crossed if you have sponsors? Without them you're free to attack anyone in the nation with total impunity?
Pretty preposterous especially as HBO has sponsors - the millions of people who pay for the subscription.
Also of note, Maher's C-word reference to Palin wasn't said on HBO. It was at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas thereby making his absurd sponsors defense completely moot.
But Maher not surprisingly missed Limbaugh's point:
RUSH LIMBAUGH: For those of you tuning into this program to find out what's going on, there is a central element of the whole Sandra Fluke story that you are not being told in the mainstream media. We've discussed it repeatedly here, but it's not part of the reporting in the mainstream version of it. But Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, just said that Obama finds the attacks on Fluke to be "reprehensible, disappointing, personal and crude." So I ask Jay Carney: Will President Obama now give back the $1 million donation that Bill Maher just gave his super PAC? You want to get some tapes of some things that Bill Maher has called Sarah Palin?
The C-word over and over again.
Bill Maher and some of his comments make me look like Romper Room, a choir boy. So will Obama be giving back Bill Maher's money? Not just Bill Maher. Look at how they have characterized Sarah Palin all of these years. The media included! I know Jay Carney will not be asked. That's why I'm asking: "Will Obama give back Bill Maher's money?"
Consider, too, that Obama called Fluke to express his support for her given Limbaugh's remarks.
If the President is so offended by what Limbaugh said about Fluke - so much so that he actually called her - how can his Super PAC possibly accept money from a man that has said far worse things about a former governor and major American political figure?
Sadly, such thinking is far too complex for Maher.

What do "sponsors" have to do with vile language?
Submitted by merly1 on Sat, 03/03/2012 - 11:41am.
You have the world's most public misogynist publicly donating 1 million to Owebama's super Pac.
Maher's hate speech is legendary, so one does wonder how the media tolerates this with a straight
face? Of course, compare the evening newcasts' audience in the era of 310 million citizens
with, say, a couple generations ago with 150 million citizens......I guess that says it all.
Plus, he is a regular, beloved guest on Tonight show, or CNN, that do have "sponsors" and
he still spews hate on those shows-->read the transcripts.........
Oh I disagree.

Maher thinks about it plenty. That is why he came up with the " the rules are different for me because I am on HBO" excuse. He thinks deeply and long about this trying to find a way around responsibility for himself.
The best way to tag Maher here is to use is "fairness" and "equality" statements. His "rules for thee but not for me" attitude is the exact opposite of equality - indeed it is inequality defined. Also by definition, inequality is "unfair".
The progressive left is guilty of projection on this point regarding everything from taxation to speech. Pure projection. It is the progressive left that pushes different sets of rules for some than for others. Progressives have inequality as the centerpiece of their politics -
and it is time to call them on it - every time they do it.

It's not also just about Bill and the Super Pac. The folks over at Powerline have told of how the Obama campaign has attacked personally the Koch brothers in a e-mail and then use that personal attack against private citizens to raise money for his re-election.

Tie Maher to Owebama publicly--loudly and clearly.............
I want to see GOP candidates throw any "Rush" questions back at moderators.

has said far worse things about actual, elected GOP women officeholders. He has now donated
1 million to the Obama campaign. Will they return it? Will your network ask them to return
it? Will Leno and Piers Morgan swear off Maher as a guest in the future. This rush debate
opens a much broader debate in the Sarah Palin era, and I WELCOME it as a GOP candidate."
Left Wing humor is for the perennial adolescent

From Wiki:
Sophomoric humor refers to juvenile, puerile, and base comedy that would normally be expected from an adolescent. It is used to refer to a type of comedy that often includes bathroom humor and gags that are based on and appeal to a silly sense of immaturity.
Maher, one of the more obvious reasons I have never subscribed to HBO and never will. I left sophomoric comedy when I was no longer a sophomore.

Maher has gone too far down the road of open, unmitigated hatred for conservatives to ever turn back or apologize. Just look at how the left treats centrists as an example (Lieberman and Bob Kerry). This, in a nutshell, is the difference between the American right and left. We on the right simply voice our disagreement. Emotional, drama queen leftists insist on being ugly - particularly toward conservative women. Ask Carrie Prejean.

Well it's time HBO heard about it none the less. And while I'm at it, on Monday I'm going to call some of Rush's sponsors who caved and let them know what I think of them. I'm also going to buy something from someone who sponsors his show nationaly and locally and thank them for sticking by Rush.
In rememberance of Andrew Breitbart, I'm speaking out.

Don't believe everything you read on the intrawebs. The only comment a saw, after an exhaustive search, regarding sponsors who were leaving Limbaugh's show was some Sleep Train retail chain, based in Sacramento, but I'm not even sure that's true.
Sleep Number Beds? I'm thinking some lady named Sara is going to be out of job come Monday. Her comment posted on her twitter account is the only thing I've read coming from an "official" of Sleep Number beds. Of course, the irresponsible press will just run with anything.
And for every sponsor that Rush has, ten are waiting to take their place. Rush's show makes companies financially successful, if they are lucky enough to advertise on his show, his followers are that loyal.

Noel. . Maher. Indeed he is on CNN, writes op-eds, interviewed
Submitted by Gary Hall on Sat, 03/03/2012 - 1:14pm.
While he used the "C-word" smear on Gov. and VP candidate Palin in a comedy act, he threw out the "dumb twat" smear on HBO - to the cheers of the crowd. And, Noel, did I catch that correct, in the link you provided to that post on Maher's vitriol, you did actually ask the question, "Can the dreaded C-word be far behind?" I offer a standing ovation.
The no-sponsor's defense is a dandy gig, is it not? Usually the defense I hear, is that his HBO show is a comedy show; however in reality, it offers more serious political debate (albeit heavily weighted from the far left) than does any show in MSNBC's nightly round-up, or the network's morning news/social panels. And then, Maher throws a bit of supposed political humor into the show.
And yes, he is on CNN - where? With the likes of Wolf Blitzer, on "The Situation Room." Doing what? Political commentary. He's a political pundit for our national MSM.
Where else does Bill Maher peddle his wares? In the op-ed pages of national newspapers. He's a frequent published op-ed writer in the Los Angeles Times. Unfortunately, as our friend Dave Pierre noted, here, even in this technological age of wonder, while his shrill views appear in the print-edition of the LATimes, often they are not available on line. Searching the LATimes archives for articles written by Bill Maher - well, it was frustrating, as none show up when the search is limited to the opinion section, or op-eds; however, searching the entire data base for articles written by him - only bring up 11 hits - and none since this Sep't 10, 2006 piece titled, "The day it was safe to tell `Bush is stupid' jokes again."
The LAT's has published many more since then. They recently interviewed him. They shrilled over his $1 million check to Obama's super pac, and nowhere is there ever a hint of the intolerance and the hate and name calling he so has mastered.
But yes - everywhere we turn, our national MSM - while celebrating the wonder of the Maher's and the Ed Schultz's (oh - is he sponsored?) - are the harsh articles and views on Andrew Breitbart and Rush Limbaugh.
Rush Limbaugh, in my view, should never call a person such names. Period. But, Rush is a wimp in this game of name calling, compared to the Bill Maher's, the Ed Schultz's, the Keith Olbermann's, the Mike Malloy's, the Randi Rhodes of their left.
Whenever this conversation of the obvious double standard comes up, I find that Democrats/liberals, simply cannot accept that more (I'd offer much more) of this vitriol comes from the left. They insist it's almost entirely from the right - and the left is only responding. I don't recall Sarah Palin calling Bill Maher a little shriveled-up dick head.
We really need a bulleted list of the name calling, the calls for extreme suffering (Sean Penn), the calls for violence and bloody hands, and the calls for civil disobedience from the left (politicians first - then journalists - then pundits and political figures - then Hollywood folks. In that order). Should fill a book by now.

Where to being…
Implied by this is, if one is ”on HBO,” one can be as foul-mouth, sophomoric, snarky, and irresponsible as possible without restraint.
I must agree that if HBO wants a truly foul-mouth, sophomoric, snarky, and irresponsible jerk to represent them, they sure have their man in Bill Maher (with whom BTW Ann Coulter is pals).
But what about HBO? It does not have any sponsors? Whence does it get its money, so it can support jerks like Bill Maher? Subscribers. In particular subscribers who evidently subscribe to foul-mouth, sophomoric, snarky, irresponsible jerks. In other words, self-righteous liberals, who are always so superior to the peasants in fly-over country.
Ahh, well, that sure puts things in perspective.
