As NewsBusters reported a few hours ago, Oprah Winfrey has finally decided to allow former Alaska governor Sarah Palin on her highly-rated daytime talk show.
Shortly after it was announced, People magazine's web article on the matter falsely informed readers that Palin refused Oprah's invitation during the campaign last year (h/t NB reader Christy Ellsworth):
Oh, what a difference a multimillion-dollar book deal makes.
About a year after Sarah Palin famously turned down a campaign season appearance with talk show host – and major Barack Obama supporter – Oprah Winfrey, the former GOP vice presidential candidate has agreed to take her turn on the couch.
Actually, as ABCNews.com reported last September, it was Oprah that refused to have Palin on her show:
Responding to media reports first publicized on Matt Drudge's "The Drudge Report" claiming there was turmoil at Winfrey's Harpo Studios about whether to book the GOP vice presidential nominee on the popular talk show, Winfrey's camp said today that while she has nothing against Palin, the veep hopeful won't appear on the show anytime soon.
"The item in today's 'Drudge Report' is categorically untrue," Winfrey said in a written statement provided to ABCNews.com. "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show.
"At the beginning of the presidential campaign, when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates," Winfrey wrote.
"I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
Nice reporting, folks. Keep up the good work.

Oprah didn't invite Sarah last year.
October 20, 2009 - 23:02 ET by CO2MakerBut Sarah probably wouldn't have accepted, so there's truthiness to the People-y story. To Sell Books
October 21, 2009 - 10:15 ET by Secret ConservativeSarah Palin is going on Oprah's show to sell her book. Period. I would like to see her boycott Oprah because of Oprah only using her show to promote Obama last year, but I imagine Palin's publisher believes it's important to kiss and make up with Oprah.
But on the upside, since this is really a desperate ploy on Oprah's part to boost her sagging ratings, she will have to make nice with Palin. Last year when it was all Obama all the time with Oprah and she snubbed Palin, she lost a LOT of conservative female viewers. They will likely tune in on Nov. 16th to see Sarah. If she's snarky, Oprah will lose those viewers forever.
I haven't watched Oprah in many, many years (ever since she decided to deify herself - how'd THAT work out Oprah?), but I did tune in for one day of the Whitney Houston interview. What I saw was Oprah trying desperately to rehabilitate the image of a crack addict - who appears to have fried her brain over the last 10 years. It was sad to watch. I may tune in the see Sarah Palin, but Oprah better not channel Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson.

Sarah and Oprah...This is NOT a good idea...
October 20, 2009 - 23:53 ET by PrairieSkyAfter the way that Oprah treated her back during the campaign, if I were Sarah, I'd tell her to drop dead if she came to me with an invite to appear on her show. I can't help but think that the knives will be out for Sarah during this "interview" which will likely turn into more of an interrogation than an interview. Oprah is a close Obama-buddy, so I don't trust her any further than I could throw her. Granted, Sarah can think and talk circles around Oprah, but I still can't help think that she will be walking into a situation that will turn out to be a set-up, and that she has no control over.

What I said was that Sarah can think and talk circles around Oprah...Oprah is no match, on any level, for Sarah. My point was that I question why Sarah would bother putting herself in a situation to possibly be attacked and/or ambushed by a known Obamaton, just to promote her already hugely successful book (which I have pre-ordered and can't wait to read, btw). I don't see the upside for Sarah to walk into the lion's den for that reason. What's the point?

October 21, 2009 - 02:19 ET by RR GOPWe've been warned about he debilitating effects on the mind of the boob tube since at least the '50s. Early on the Left saw it as a good thing and a key to mind control...or whatever.
Vietnam brought the war into our homes and helped get our forces out so that the DU's/WU's communist buds could take over and kill the counter-revolutionaries at will, or at the very least get their "minds right" in "re-education camps" (anyone remember those? Yes, the MSM did report on those once upon a time.)
I vividly remember the plethora of Leftist social-consciousness TV specials of the 1970s. Not always bad programs in themselves, but also back then they were willing to (at least for profit if not personal convictions) show Christmas programming and promote Christian values. For every M*A*S*H and All in the Family we had a show like The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie.
Since the '80s all we get are deliciously trashy soap operas, cynicism, shows about how "real families" are, dumpy, smart-a$$ housewives, cheating housewives, smart-a$$ cartoon characters and the like, semi-scripted reality shows, gay-is-great shows...oh, and a healthy dose of potty humor that Libtard wise guys use in place of creativity.
And of course, the talk show phenomenon. Given the weakness of the self-important TV news bureaus, these have pretty much replaced the Cronkite wannabes as the main sources of "news" and social consciousness. Of course, when a Glenn Beck engages in this format...it's, well, just wrong!

I think that statement from 1961 just gets truer and truer. I don’t watch TV. I listen to it as I do other things.

October 21, 2009 - 10:30 ET by Noel Sheppardshawn,
Well, the question now is who wins and who loses if she goes on. If Palin was currently the Vice President, Oprah would win with her appearance. That I would be against because of Oprah's boycott in September.
However, Palin now is in the middle of a big makeover. She's trying to redefine her image for some political move in the future. Her appearance now likely is a benefit to her, and as you can see from the fan-mail, not a positive to Oprah. As such, I'm not necessarily against this now because Palin likely has nothing to lose and a lot to win. ns
I am still at a complete loss...
October 21, 2009 - 09:15 ET by stage9Can someone help me out here? I have casually followed Palin over the last couple of years since she's come into the spotlight, and I've watched the media lambast her, but for the life of me I'm failing to understand why. Has she done something in her former life that I'm just unaware of? I mean, from what I've ever seen of her, she's just a normal, everyday woman with a family, a love for her state and country and just so happens to have a political career.
Yet, everytime I hear liberals describe her, you'd think she was Jezebel reincarnated. They really hate this woman.
I mean I can understand their venom towards Bush. Liberals don't like war or national defense. So, because Bush ordered our troops into Iraq, the liberals hate him. That at least makes logical sense. (I disagree with it, but at least it makes sense).
But with Sarah Palin, it's different. What is it that she has done that is so heinous exactly? I'm asking sincerely, because I feel like I'm missing something here.
Can someone help me out?

Right, and liberals hate most of America.
No, but seriously, a lot of it has to do with her gender, and we have a few things going on here:
1.) The media as a whole is somewhat sexist, and you saw that to some degree against Hillary, and to an even greater degree against Palin because of her party. Even with the role of women in society, how our society always fixates on their appearance, there were articles about Hillary's pantsuits, articles about Palin's RNC clothes, and, you still see the same thing with the media focusing on Michelle's arms and shoes, etc, but it's in a positive light when they report on her. I'm not advocating radical feminism, but I'm pointing out something, and I don't want to be seen as making a value-based judgment on the regard of this.
2.) Dems want to keep all women and minorities shackled in their party.

Why the media hates Palin
October 21, 2009 - 09:49 ET by Blogger Guy00001The media hates Palin because the media is far left. Leftist hate Palin because she was the first political figure in many years to energize conservatives. Bush and McCain are not inspiring at all. Palin inspired people and gave them the idea that there might be hope again in politics.
The left knew that, and immediately started trashing and sliming her.

yeah, but...
October 21, 2009 - 10:03 ET by stage9there's something deeper going on here. When you hear even media liberals describe her, it's like she killed their family dog or something. There's such a disgust for her.
I mean SC Governor Mark Sanford who cheated on his wife and lied to the state isn't even receiving as much hate as she gets when her name is mentioned.
It's a kind of obsessive hatred for the woman. Yet, I have seen nothing to lead me to believe that she is a heinous person.
I have literally sat and watched her on tv trying to analize her words to find something that would justify why liberals might hate her, and I can find nothing.
So, I scratch my head in bewilderment. What gives?

Sarah Palin represents everything the political and media "elites" disdain. She's like US. Charlie Gibson looking down his nose at her in his interview was classic, because it absolutely represented, physically, how the liberal elites feel about all of us.
We love her because she is the Mom next door - who happened to get involved in politics because she genuinely wanted to effect change in her community, and then in her state. She's not a power monger. She's REAL. We can relate to her.
But she's not part of "their" world. So the more we love her, the more they hate and fear her and are determined to destroy her.
