For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Will Hillary replace Biden as Obama's running mate?
Before scoffing at the notion, consider the bump McCain-Palin has gotten in the polls, the state of panic being demonstrated by Democrats and media, and Biden saying yesterday that Hillary would have been a better choice.
If polling numbers don't improve for Obama before the first debate, what other options does he have to shake up the race? After all, he's not a great debater, and no matter what the folks on the left think about Biden, he could end up looking foolish against Palin for a number of obvious and maybe not-so obvious reasons.
Enter Hillary, and a ticket that lost all of its excitement on August 29 instantaneously gets it back. Thoughts?

NY Times - No 9/11

Dallas Morning News 9/11 coverage
September 11, 2008 - 11:19 ET by MaximusBraveheartHas it on the very bottom (has 3" about) of the front page. Title is "Scientist helps families find peace in tragedy." And then in the very bottom corner next to this (about 1.5" x 3") says: 9/11: 7 years later and gives a listing of related articles w/i the paper. Still sad. At the top of page 1 talks about huricane evacs starting, DISD and then a big article on the Dallas Symphony.

Amusing column in the Washington Post on McCain/Palin in VA
September 11, 2008 - 09:51 ET by Prester John"The crowd, which I counted at 8,000 but which police estimated at 23,000, gathered at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax City represented votes for John McCain but passion for Palin. McCain knew it; he led the audience in a chant of "Sar-ah! Sar-ah!" Still, did the man who might be the next president know that hundreds would start streaming out of the park as soon as Palin finished speaking, leaving a noticeably sparser audience to hear from the top of the ticket?
So he actually took the time to count 8,000 people? Right. And later...
Like many at the rally, Victoria Robinson-Worst sees Palin's lack of experience as an asset. "I know people who have experience who are totally incompetent," said Robinson-Worst, who lives in Loudoun County, designs wedding flowers and raises two children. "And I know people who have no experience who step in and get it right. I mean, women can do amazing things."
This is where culture wars, identity politics and self-suffocating academic theories of deconstructionism have led us: Authority is suspect. Experience is corrupting. Ignorance is strength?
Next will be "war is peace." Or have we already heard that one?"

The Old Switcheroo?
September 11, 2008 - 09:53 ET by BondPlainBondDo not believe Obama would bump Biden for Clinton. If he does, he has lost ALL credibility in the judgment department, having had the opportunity to select Clinton first and completely refusing. Would Hillary accept? Doubt it, especially after Obama has demonstrated his weakness and lack of influence these past two weeks.
Michelle's influence over her husband, to be certain, is what is ruling Obama in his bid for the presidency. He follows her wishes and her commands. Will Michelle allow Hillary to be on the ticket even if it means her husband will win the election? Doubtful. Michelle has a serious problem (insecurity) with strong, independent, capable, attractive, and successful women.
For Obama to retain any shred of credibility with the left, he must keep Biden on the ticket with him. To do otherwise would announce to the world he is incapable of making good decisions that work the first time out of the box. In other words, he'd reveal, once and for all, he really is an utter failure when it comes to all things political.

Biden - Insert foot here
September 11, 2008 - 10:00 ET by MillerTimeWarpDid anyone see/hear Biden speak about Hillary being a better candidate than him ? Did it ever make the nightly news (wishful thinking) ?
MillerTimeWarp
September 11, 2008 - 10:10 ET by Mica the MagnificentI saw it on Fox News this morning. I couldn't tell you if the Obama hugging MSM covered it, I do not watch them.
But if the MSM did, I'm sure they would claim Karl Rove was transmitting encoded messages to Biden's hair plugs that made him say it.
ABC News last night...
September 11, 2008 - 11:14 ET by SouthJersey1953I believe I first heard it on ABC News last night. I know I heard it on FOX later.

Hillary
September 11, 2008 - 10:02 ET by SDSYes he would get some of the Hillary votes but then would be seen as completely incompetent and would loss what he gained. But we are talking about democrats so anything can happen.
End of the Democratic Party
September 11, 2008 - 10:02 ET by GothampcHillary won't replace Biden because it would be the end of the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party is currently split into factions. The Kennedy faction and the Clinton faction are at war. Obama decided to align himself with the Kennedy faction (he had Caroline on his VP selection committee). To go back on that and choose Hillary as his running mate would start a war that would make the Democratic Party implode.
Unless Biden becomes seriously ill, for Obama to change his mind at this point would be a disaster. It would prove he's not a good decision maker and would lead to a GOP victory.
Don't deprive us of our entertainment, we want to see how many gaffes Biden can make during the VP debates.
Unless Biden becomes seriously ill
September 11, 2008 - 10:16 ET by BlondeBut what if he doesn't?
Seriously, anything less than a Teddy Kennedy brain tumor (and I am most certainly not wishing for anything of the sort) would be construed by the public and yes, even the media, as a sham and a diversion.
To drop Biden for no reason other than sinking polls? I don't know as that's ever been done.
Finally...I don't think little Barry could stand being out of the limelight any more than he already is with Palin in the race. Two female VP candidates would triple trump his being the first "candidate of color".
Love your Biden/debate entertainment comment. Spot on!

Biden is Gaffe-tastic

I know I'm going to have to ask God for forgiveness, but I can't wait!!!! It's almost as good as Christmas.
Two days ago, Biden asked a fellow Democrat who was wheelchair bound to stand up. Then realizing his blunder, he said "I'm new at this".
Biden unscripted. The VP debates will be the best comedy on tv.
Goth, thanks for that giggle
September 11, 2008 - 10:33 ET by BlondeI saw the video...but I didn't hear the "I'm new at this comment".
'Wunder Blunder Biden.
