CNN anchor Campbell Brown, famous for her repeated clashes with the McCain-Palin campaign, went off on a "short rant" last night against GOP staffers for putting "chauvinistic chains" around vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
Brown's lecture during the first minutes of her "Election Center" show came on the heels of extended complaints from American news media about how the McCain camp is acting wrongly by not allowing reporters to be present during a series of meetings Palin is having with European leaders.
Excluding the media is not only wrong, Brown argued, it is further proof that the McCain campaign is treating Palin like a "delicate flower that will wilt at any moment."
That's not necessary since Palin can handle the pressure, Brown argued, despite the fact that the CNN anchor has repeated questioned Palin's qualifications.
"By treating Sarah Palin different from the other candidates in this race, you're not showing her the respect she deserves," Brown said. "Free Sarah Palin. Free her from the chauvinistic chains you're binding her with. Sexism in this campaign must come to an end."Full transcript of Brown's remarks is below. Watch the video above.
In just a moment, we're going to have the very latest on the negotiations and how they will affect you.
But, first, bear with me for a short rant on another subject, because, frankly, I have had it. And I know a lot of other women out there are with me on this. I have had enough of the sexist treatment of Sarah Palin. It has to end.
She was here in New York City today meeting with world leaders at the U.N. And what did the McCain campaign do? They tried to ban reporters from covering those meetings. And they did ban reporters from asking Governor Palin any questions.
Tonight, I call on the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment. This woman is from Alaska, for crying out loud. She is strong. She is tough. She is confident. And you claim she's ready to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.
If that is the case, then end this chauvinistic treatment of her now. Allow her to show her stuff. Allow her to face down those pesky reporters, just like Barack Obama did today, just like John McCain did today, just like Joe Biden has done on numerous occasions. Let her have a real news conference with real questions.
By treating Sarah Palin different from the other candidates in this race, you're not showing her the respect she deserves. Free Sarah Palin. Free her from the chauvinistic chains you're binding her with. Sexism in this campaign must come to an end.
Sarah Palin has just as much a right to be a real candidate in this race as the men do. So, let her act like one.
We're going to have more on Palin's cloistered day coming up in just a moment.

September 24, 2008 - 10:44 ET by ArtistePlease, who is Brown kidding. Such a showing of Palin's best interests by the loony left. They could care. They only want to try to get more fodder for their slime machine against Palin. Brown's comments show how really stupid the Dems can be.

September 24, 2008 - 10:51 ET by allanfAlma Brown and many other liberals in New York have really lost it over Sarah Palin. Isn't she the real sexist for questioning whether Palin can have a family and still do the job?

September 24, 2008 - 10:50 ET by KC MulvilleAs soon as Palin was announced, the liberal media went nuts in trying to find any dirt, down to the smallest speck, and rush breathlessly to the microphone to proclaim "she's not qualified!!!"
It comes down to one simple fact. The news media is biased in favor of liberals. That's why the McCain campaign wants to keep the wolves away from her. They, in their self-serving lack of reflection, don't think they're biased. So, since they can't explain this on their own bias, they stupidly assume it must be for other reasons - and so they accuse McCain of sexism? That's deliberate ignorance. Ignorance with malice aforethought.

September 24, 2008 - 10:53 ET by NotafraidI missed Ms. Brown's rant when Obama met with Merkel, Blair and Brown this summer without cameras. When is CNN going to re-run this rant.
Let's get real. Obama has essentially no experience in foreign policy (or domestic policy for that matter). Where Governor Palin has a long list of accomplishments as a mayor and governor, Obama has no real accomplishments show for his infancy as a US senator (I'm sorry, sitting on a committee is not an accomplishment).
Senator McCain is the only presidential candidate who has a proven track record of bucking the system, reaching across party lines and bringing Americans together.

September 24, 2008 - 11:01 ET by UtherpendDoesn't this remind you of the Fox asking to guard the Hen house from other foxes?
But in this case the Hen is actually a Pitbull in disguise who would more than likely eat the Fox alive. I say let Palin answer Alma's questions and by all means don't tie her hands. After Alma starts to rant and rave and lose all self control Sarah can knock her liberal white butt out.

September 24, 2008 - 11:13 ET by MazziThis is hysterical! Alma (yes, that's her real name) Campbell Brown has outdone herself on this one! lol!
One can only wonder if Alma got where she is by using her Daddy's influence, or by spending a fair amount of time on her knees, but either way, this woman has a ton of arrogance (ehem.. I mean "hubris", of course) to claim sexism against Palin.
Alma should remember that it was HER unprofessional actions that caused McCain to cancel his interview with her network. Yet she still has a job. Thanks Daddy? Or thanks to some unnamed MSM bigwig?

Campbell Brown's father, Jim Brown, was the State Insurance Commissioner of Louisiana a while back and went to prison for insurance fraud. Naturally, he was a Democrat. I don't think it's a stretch to come to the conclusion that Campbell's a little - shall we say? - "bitter." There's no question that she's a partisan Democrat with deep roots in the Louisiana Democratic Party's historically corrupt political machine, an organ that would have given Tammany Hall a run for its money.(hat tip Atlas Shrugs)

Campbell, YOU want to treat her different! Obama met with all those leaders on his summer world concert tour and reporters were not in on those meetings, so why should they be in on meetings with Palin? Have reporters been in on McCain and Biden meetings with world leaders?
You also complain that she hasn't had a press conference...how many have Biden had in the same timeframe? Obama and McCain?
You complain that she tends to use a teleprompter...Obama set up his teleprompter in a RODEO RING!
You complain that she won't be interviewed...she had a 3 part interview with Charlie Gibson, a 2 part interview with Sean Hannity, and has a 1 or 2 part interview set up with Katie for this weekend. Not too bad for 5 weeks...especially the five weeks you media yokels have put her through. You and yours have scrutinized her more in the last 5 weeks than you have scrutinized Obama, Biden, or even McCain. All the while running the most bizzare stories that have no shreds of proof and which started on left wing hate sites.
Campbell, there is almost no single way in which YOU and the rest of the media have treated her THE SAME as any other candidate in the history of US politics!!!!

OK
September 24, 2008 - 11:50 ET by WesternEventually, Palin will speak to the Media on her and the McCain campaign terms.
In essence, I do agree that she must engage the press; however, it has to be approached in a fair manner.
Right now, it seems that CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and so on are baiting the McCain campaign.
She needs to use the press to get the message out to voters so it requires a delicate balance. Palin is more than able to defend her positions on issues--the concern is whether the pundits will like her answers.
The press should report her answers and not engage in numerous contextual analytical critics of her answers--but they will.
My advice is that sometimes you have to just wing it.
Palin's connection with average voter is strong, I believe.

I cannot imagine a more ridiculous complaint. That would be like complaining that somebody did not bring a herd of wild boars to a cocktail party.
If the McCain camp acquiesced to such a request, absolutely everybody would justifiably conclude that they were simply too stupid to handle foreign affairs.

Campbell, Campbell, Campbell...
September 24, 2008 - 23:28 ET by BondPlainBondI wanted to know precisely what Campbell Brown had reported about Obama's closed-door, no-press-access Middle East and European tours... Don't these people realize every word they say on-air is available on-line?
The day Obama met with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and had dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Olmert and a day in which President Peres was effusive in his praise of Obama, there was no mention of what was said during the meetings, no mention of them being closed-door, only a discussion about Obama's gaffe about Israel and Palestine.
On the day Obama met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Campbell had absolutely nothing to say about the meeting, no mention of the meeting being closed-door. Didn't even say "Angela Merkel" during her report that evening.
The next day, it was Paris and French President Sarkozy. Nothing was reported about the meeting between Obama and Sarkozy, nor was it mentioned it was a closed-door meeting. Sarkozy's effusive press conference was discussed enthusiastically between the two women.
Campbell Brown's "reporting" speaks volumes about her personal political agenda being made public.

What a Joke
September 25, 2008 - 00:28 ET by LindamaeBrown's croc tears are a croc. She has no right to question this issue - based upon her lack of unbiased, balanced, past reporting. She obviously loves Obama - every word out of her mouth supports this. She drools. Therefore, she is unqualified to conduct an interview with anyone other than the Senator. Why should Palin waste her time with a losing situation? Obama's press interviews have been love fests - giggles, cutsie questions. Has anyone asked him to explain why he told the Iraqis to wait until the next president - wink, wink - is elected to declare peace? He admits it and no one demands an accounting of such a scandalous behavior. Disgusting. Yet Palin is asked - and answers with confidence - questions Obama should have been asked but never was. Yet - Obama is running for President. Palin for veep. We have higher standards for her. She is more qualified than he to lead our country. I wonder if Brown will do a report in which she mentions the dates - and video clips - that Greenspan, Bush and McCain have begged the Democrats to address the possible future problems they could see in the banking industry? Dodd and Frank are on record stating that there was NO problem. No worry. Of course, they and Obama did receive campaign funds from the 2 agencies. Come on, Campbell - get working on this great story. You might get a Pulitzer Prize for fair and balanced coverage of the issue. For now, you deserve the booby prize for shoddy work.
