Jack Cafferty Gives Credence to Liberal Conspiracy Tying Bachmann, Perry to Radical Christian Movement
Citing a Daily Beast piece linking GOP candidates Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry to a radical Christian strain called "Dominionism," CNN's Jack Cafferty fretted about a possible Christian theocracy in America on Wednesday's Cafferty File.
"I got to reading this piece, and it scared the hell out of me," Cafferty fearfully remarked of the article's conspiratorial claims. "We contacted both campaigns a few hours ago, haven't heard a word back form either one of them."
The article was published in the liberal Daily Beast and reported on by NewsBusters on Monday. Cafferty even cited NewsBusters in his brief summary of the article's critics. "And the website Newsbusters says the Daily Beast quote, 'went a few more steps off the deep end by publishing this piece'," Cafferty mentioned.
According to the Daily Beast, Dominionism claims that Christians have a "God-given right to rule" all earthly institutions, political and cultural. "Think of it like political Islamism," author Michelle Goldberg writes.
And what are the ties which Perry and Bachmann supposedly possess to this movement? Bachmann was apparently "close" to one a group supporting Dominionism, and appeared in a documentary produced by that group, Truth In Action Ministries. She has also praised certain religious figures connected with the movement, according to the Daily Beast piece.
Perry, meanwhile, has not directly supported the movement, at least from what the Daily Beast has found. One group, The New Apostolic Reformation, which appears to harbor Dominionist beliefs, supports Perry's bid for President and was involved in his recent prayer vigil. That's the major "link" Perry shares with these fringe beliefs.
A transcript of the segment, which aired on August 17 at 5:14 p.m. EDT, is as follows:
JACK CAFFERTY: Forget about the separation of church and state. There is reason to believe that religion could have a whole new meaning for the next occupant of the White House. The Daily Beast reports that two of the Republican candidates for President – Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry – are quote, "deeply associated" with a theocratic strain of Christian fundamentalism that's called "Dominionism."
For those of you who haven't heard of this before – and I was one of those, I hadn't heard of it either – stand by, 'cause this stuff is really out there.
The Daily Beast writes how Dominionists believe that Christians have a God-given right to rule all earthly institutions. Dominionism finds its roots in a small fringe sect called Christian Reconstructionism – people who advocate replacing U.S. law with the laws of the Old Testament. That would include the death penalty for homosexuality and abortion. Swell.
The Daily Beast reports that both Bachmann and Perry appear to have ties to groups that support Dominionism. Bachmann appeared in a documentary for one of these groups called "Truth In Ministries." Also, she often praises or cites different religious leaders who are connected to these beliefs.
As for Perry, there is a group called The New Apostolic Reformation that sees him as their ticket to power. They talk about quote, "taking dominion over American society," unquote, and they hope that Perry can claim the so-called mountain of government. This group was also involved in Perry's prayer vigil in Houston a couple of weeks ago.
Critics suggest the Daily Beast's examples show so-called Dominionist groups attaching themselves to the candidates, and not so much the other way around. And the website Newsbusters says the Daily Beast quote, "went a few more steps off the deep end by publishing this piece."
We reached out to both campaigns for a response, and not unexpectedly haven't heard a word back from either one of them.
Here’s the question: How much does it worry you if both Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry have ties to Dominionism?
(...)
CAFFRTY: This is way out there, Wolf.
WOLF BLITZER: Yeah, I never heard of Dominion – like you, I never heard of Dominion –
CAFFERTY: I hadn't either. I got to reading this piece, and it scared the hell out of me. I thought, what is this?
BLITZER: Alright, well we're anxious to get some reaction from the Bachmann and Perry campaigns. If we do, we'll of course share it with our viewers right away.
CAFFERTY: We asked for a reaction. We contacted both campaigns a few hours ago, haven't heard a word back from either one of them.
BLITZER: Alright, well if they come in in the next hour or two, we'll share it with our viewers whenever we get it.

Since I believe for once we are not sniping at each other. Yes it concerns me that a President Bachman will go after the adult industry. There is no doubt she thinks it is immoral and her signing that pledge showed me how she feels about social issues.
I have not talked about this for over 8 months, but i am also concerned about her changing the current administrations policies on Feds raiding pot clubs
I love Christians and Christianity. I just believe it is an individual choice and should not be forced on everyone else

What can a President do? You mentioned sodomy laws before, those were on a state level so that's a moot point regardless of the fact that Presidents are part of the executive branch, they do not make laws.
Of course the "adult" industry is immoral; it can't be called "moral" on any level, can it? But again, what can a President do? Other than the federal laws concerning pedophilia, every regulatory agency for that sort of thing is on a state level (That I'm aware of, gimme a link if you know of a federal one. It's not exactly my area of expertise).
In a world where this country and most of the other developed countries are hovering on the edge of financial collapse, I really don't think you need have any concern that any Republican President is even going to have social issues on his/her radar. Who the hell wants to haggle over gay marriage when there's rioting, looting, and violent assaults going on in the cities while people struggle to stay employed and put food on the table? This is going to be the new normal for some time, gay people and porn addicts are just going to have to suffer with the rest of us.
Pot clubs? I didn't even know there was such a thing. And here I thought stamp collectors were lame.

If prostitution involving minors or child pornography is sold or introduced through the US mail service or crosses state lines, then you have Federal intervention. The ATF, US Marshall's Office, FBI, US Postal Inspectors all have units with various responsibilities to share with state agencies, investigations and prosecutions involving minors in prostitution and pornography.
These agencies work tirelessly for years to follow a trail of child pornographers until they are able to identify the victim and everyone who came in contact with the pornography. These guys also know how to cross their T's and dot the I's. I have seen their warrants and it looks like a 500 page senate bill.

though I wouldn't have thought the ATF would be involved, that seems incongruous.
I see the proliferation of drugs, booze, and sex abuse as a failure, not of the government, but of the Church as a whole.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?
Too many people have treated church as a social club and faith as something to wear on their sleeves on Sundays, alone. We send money to Haiti and mission teams to Kenya, and millions of people on our very doorsteps wander in darkness and curse the light which does not come to them.

Obama passed his stimulus and Obamacare. He has also legalized gays in the military Bush managed to outlaw partial birth abortion nationwide which I agree with
I believe Bachman will strongly defend a constitutional amendment to define marriage between a man and a woman for which I agree as well
Obama has promised not to raid pot dispensaries in CA for medicinal marijuana and I am concerned Bachmann will change that.
I know how many Christians think. They are kind hearted and want to help their fellow man. Just looking at all they did for Japan is heartwarming. However on the flip side many don't mind to impose their moral view on others. A GOP politician in Missouri recently changed laws where you cannot get a lap dance anymore and no liquer is to be served at these establishments
I'm not saying this because I want a lapdance. First I am married and second lapdances cost 50 bucks a dance In Cali ;-)
So yes it makes me nervous and I have my concerns about Bachman.

This is how anti-religious bigots would whip up mobs in ye olde times, and foolish, conspiring people are still at it today with new tools. If you work people up into a sufficient dither, then they can accuse religion X or candidate Y of making the sun go backwards and making trees grow upside-down and people will believe it.
Mark my words - in their desperation to save their failed, dying pet black president, the media will soon be urging their viewers to kill Christians and Republicans. It's already started. They'll be sly about it first, talking out of both sides of their mouth. They're already calling them 'terrorists' and 'radicals' and 'hostage takers' to make their viewers/readers feel 'threatened' by Christians and/or conservatives.
Next they'll be saying stuff like, 'I'm not saying that Christians SHOULD all be killed. But... would it really be so bad if someone DID kill them all...?' Then they'll spend entire segments discussing the 'benefits to society' that might be had if someone would just kill all those dang Christians. If any outrage is expressed, they'll smirk and say, 'Hey I didn't call for any of that - I'm just discussing the good things that might happen from Christians being fed to the lions!'
They'll do that for a while, and then progress to directly calling for Christians to be killed - using the 'benefits to society' as their excuse. Finally, they'll whip up the mobs with threats that those dang christians are arming for war or something, and Matthews, et. al, will urge their viewers to arms, to go to anyone they know is a Christian and kill them. 'They're coming for you! It's them or us!' they'll say.
Sound crazed, paranoid or farfetched? Far from it. Just like the witch hunts in Pilgrim times, all they'll need are a few really loudmouth rabble-rousers, and a population sufficiently ill-informed and dumb to listen to them.
Christ warned about it. 'Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake,' he said. 'And the time cometh that when they kill you, they will say they do God service.'
I think it's pretty far fetched

It'll be no fun if any of this is true. I saw the first of this on the rare occasion of watching Butch Maddow's show. Sure they spin everything else, but religion is different. I never looked at Evangelicals the same after I saw several over the years preaching that Catholics like me are going to Hell for being Catholic. I don't trust anyone Evangelical, Pentacostal or Fundamentalist anymore. I've seen the hate rolling off of those people too many times. I left the Republican Party over Ronald Reagan opening the White House to that hypocrite Jerry Falwell.
Religion and Politics don't end up good when put together. I would never vote for a Priest for that reason. Let the priest stay in church and let the politician stay in Gehenna.
All Romney has to do is what he's been doing. Saying nothing. It may be all the others shoot themselves in the foot and he's the last man standing. His religion is looked at like a freak show by the Fundies, but he has the common sense not to wear religion on his sleeve.....

They may carry grudges over the Roman Catholic-based Inquisition and other persecutions of Protesant Anglo Saxon peoples during medieval times. The frequent pogroms on Jewish people in Europe also heavily influenced Jewish opinion even today. Rants from people like Mel Gibson don't help either. Prayer to "saints" instead of only Father God or Jesus also is a craw sticker. Just sayin' ....
But then hard-line Baptists (Falwell) and Church of God pentacostals despise each other also over silly doctrinal issues. Much of these kinds of things like dominion, ultimate reconciliation, and "liberation" theology are doctrinal fads that don't grab most people very strongly anyway. Especially church leaders - they regularly put the kabosh on that nonsense. Don't get too concerned. There's more animosity between Florida and Georgia fans.

I think where we erred is in the concept of personal responsibility. That seemed to be the basis for our laws from the outset, but they've been marginalized as "too harsh" on our poor {insert sob/back story here} culture so the pendulum swung too far towards "it's a kid/guy/disadvantaged youth" culture where the perp has more rights than the victim.
It's a normal/natural reaction to want to swing the pendulum back.

First they have to send it to their families and their old college friends, and business friends posted under the title "Would you believe even Jack Cafferty could be sucked in by this!"
They will then sit down and compose a serious reply because many people remember 1995. For the younger crowd Bill Clinton was desperately afraid of having to run against Phil Gram in 1996 who was a Ph.D. in economics. To avoid a Phil Gram race Bill Clinton's people were spending time and money to get Bob Dole the nomination. Toward this end one of his operatives planted the story that Phil Gram had ties to the Aryan Nation. I saw the story on NBC evening news. After everybody had a good laugh because Mrs., Gram was a War orphan from Korea, I think that her name is Windi, everybody forgot about the stupid story.
But because Dr. Gram lost the race and some people just maybe stupid enough to think that of a man who is less approved of by the Aryan nation than Jesse Jackson, you will get your rebuttal.

It would appear that Jack Cafferty is like so many who go apocalyptic whenever the thought of "theocracy" arises. But such creatures labor under the false illusion that they would be forced to live in a Christian Theocracy. Quite the contrary; according to the Bible, they would not be permitted to exist in such a Theocracy. In the true Kingdom of God, which is to be ruled by Jesus the Messiah, they would be frog-marched to the Lake of Fire and thrown in. The Theocratic Kingdom is the reward for the righteous of the earth only. The wicked are removed to burn in Hell. They would never witness the glory of this future Theocracy. So what is it that Jack really fears? He obviously fears his future judgment of being found an enemy of God, and cast into the Lake of Fire, and hence he will never see the coming of the Theocracy; he will have no part in it whatsoever.
