"The View"co-hosts discussed the Mike Huckabee Christmas ad when Joy Behar moved to quote Ron Paul, ideologically libertarian, whom Behar calls "a very staunch Republican," who quoted Sinclair Lewis: "When Fascism comes to the country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."When they played the advertisement, Behar moaned "we don’t have to listen to him do we?"
Whoopi Goldberg, who previously defended Georgia Governor Perdue for holding a prayer service, defended Huckabee’s ad claiming "if he wasn’t a Christian, I don’t think people would be as freaked out by it." Whoopi also defended those who wish to proclaim Merry Christmas.
KEYS: Do you think it matters? Well, well, do you think it matters?
GOLDBERG: Apparently it does. It matters to quite a few people because one of the other complaints on this is people are saying "and he said Christmas!" And I said, but it is Christmas!
SHEPHERD: But he talked about Jesus on the thing.
GOLDBERG: Well, it’s the birth of Jesus! It’s Christmas! So why wouldn’t you say that? That I don’t understand.
The entire transcript is below.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: [Mike Huckabee’s] got this video, this sort of holiday video that, that is out, and people are questioning now. They’re saying "well did he put up a subliminal cross because he’s a Christian?" Let’s take a look at it to see if anybody else sees the ridiculousness-
JOY BEHAR: We don’t have to listen to him do we?
GOLDBERG: We don’t have to listen to him. Now, so here’s the cameras moving.
ALICIA KEYS: It’s a window or a book shelf?
GOLDBERG: It’s a book case actually.
KEYS: It’s a book case.
SHERRI SHEPHERD: And there’s a tree once they keep panning.
GOLDBERG: But, you know, once you keep panning-
BEHAR: If you keep going there’s a Christmas tree.
GOLDBERG: -there’s a Christmas tree and everything else.
KEYS: Does it look like a window when you go further?
SHEPHERD: Yeah, well the tree is in front of it.
GOLDBERG: Can you roll it some more? Can you roll a little bit more so people can see the whole thing? Oh, we don’t have it. We only had that much.
BEHAR: It’s tree. It’s a tree.
GOLDBERG: But there’s a tree right next to it. So people are saying he did that on purpose because he’s a Christian.
BEHAR: And he’s saying no. Well, it’s not just that he’s a Christian. It’s also he’s appealing to the Christian right, so that he can get the nomination.
GOLDBERG: Well, if he wasn’t a Christian, I don’t think people would be as freaked out by it. Because, you know, everybody is, is pandering to the right. Everybody is not pandering to the right, I take that back, pandering to the religious part of this. Which is, you know, here’s, I believe in this, I believe in this, I believe in this. What is your religion? Who? What? Where? Asking questions we’ve never asked before. And I think it’s- oh here we go. We got the whole thing.
BEHAR: But it’s a, it’s a heavier appeal on the Republican side than the Democrats.
GOLDBERG: Did you see those guys on CNN talking about their religious beliefs in the early part- I mean, it was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that. Still moving. And there’s the tree.
SHEPHERD: And now there’s the, you know, when we were talking downstairs, Fran our costume designer, she’s like with set design everything, there’s every thought that goes into the way a set is designed. And she felt like there was no accident with anything. That they saw the that it was a cross, and you know, they left it in there.
BEHAR: What do you think?
SHEPHERD: I think, you know, I didn’t think it was intentional. But I didn’t have a problem with it because I’m a Christian.
BEHAR: Ron Paul, who’s running on the Republican ticket, and was one of the guests that we had, said on "Fox and Friends."
GOLDBERG: The man you told what?
BEHAR: Well, he’s a very interesting guy.
SHEPHERD: The man she told he wasn’t going to win?
BEHAR: He’s the only one in the Republican party that wants to get out of Iraq immediately.
GOLDBERG: Right.
BEHAR: And he’s the only one who addresses our policies in the Mid East. He’s the only one. But he said today, he’s a Republican, a very staunch Republican too. He says when Fa- this is quoting Sinclair Lewis who’s a famous American writer. "When Fascism comes to the country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross." That is from Ron Paul, who was a Republican candidate.
[...]
GOLDBERG: But the bottom line is, is it, is it really an issue or is it Christmas and that’s all it is?
BEHAR: Everything is deliberate in these campaigns. I don’t believe it’s an accident. I don’t believe it.
SHEPHERD: But, so what if he did it? It is Christmas-
BEHAR: Fine! But let’s just call it what it is. If it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. It’s an appeal to the Christian right base of the Republican party. The end. That’s it.

As for the flag, if anything it's those who push away the flag who are trying to bring facism to this country. Either through big government or by giving moral support to and retreating from the Islamofacism dedicated to overrunning the country.
And why the hell is Ron Paul quoting Sinclair Lewis? Lewis was a immoral hardcore socialist who mocked anyone who didn't think the exact same way he did. Lewis was as "facist" as anyone and a piece of crap. If I had not been forced to read about him in school I wouldn't even know who the bum was.

Sinclair Lewis COMMUNIST
December 19, 2007 - 20:12 ET by LiveFreeOrDieYour quote about socialism coming in the form of Hideous Rodent Clinton is sheer genius. Like so many godless Marxists, Sinclair Lewis died from the mental illness of liberalism and advanced alcohol poisoning. He claims to have feared fascism yet chose to die in Rome among many of the people who welcomed Hitler and Mussolini. I guess all of this is too much for the morbidly obese, trailer dwellers who are the mainstay audience of "The View" to comprehend. An uneducated electorate is Mrs. Clinton's only hope.
Why can't I get answers?
December 19, 2007 - 20:32 ET by RJI've been asking questions for two days:
Why did Ron Paul, of all people, quote Sinclair Lewis, of all people?
Is Paul a closet Socialist?
Why is Paul equating Christianity to fascism?
Does Paul believe that loving the American flag is fascist?

There are Poinsettias on the set , so Christian of them
December 19, 2007 - 17:17 ET by BurgherFound this on the web. seems you can't escape Christianity this time of year.
A charming story is told of Pepita, a poor Mexican girl who had no gift to present the Christ Child at Christmas Eve Services. As Pepita walked slowly to the chapel with her cousin Pedro, her heart was filled with sadness rather than joy.
"I am sure, Pepita, that even the most humble gift, if given in love, will be acceptable in His eyes," said Pedro consolingly.
Not knowing what else to do, Pepita knelt by the roadside and gathered a handful of common weeds, fashioning them into a small bouquet. Looking at the scraggly bunch of weeds, she felt more saddened and embarrassed than ever by the humbleness of her offering. She fought back a tear as she entered the small village chapel.
As she approached the alter, she remembered Pedro's kind words: "Even the most humble gift, if given in love, will be acceptable in His eyes." She felt her spirit lift as she knelt to lay the bouquet at the foot of the nativity scene.
Suddenly, the bouquet of weeds burst into blooms of brilliant red, and all who saw them were certain that they had witnessed a Christmas miracle right before their eyes.
From that day on, the bright red flowers were known as the Flores de Noche Buena, or Flowers of the Holy Night, for they bloomed each year during the Christmas season.
Today, the common name for this plant is the poinsettia!

This woman is smashing to the right on issues and sounding absolutely normal. Rosie had to bounce, pounce and trounce in shouts and Whoop just gravel drawls to her point.
As an interesting point, my left nutty wing hometown news weekly arrived today and the Democrat running it had MERRY CHRISTMAS printed in red ink on top lol. She also swung out pro life awhile back........maybe there are Reagan Republicans out there yet.

December 19, 2007 - 17:40 ET by pbthinkerWhat it all proves is that if it's a bookcase, and looks like a bookcase but the guy in front of the bookcase is a Republican and you can make it seem to be something more, go for it.
Other than that, can you see the camera guy, that's setting this thing up, going outside to smoke a joint and coming back in and saying, "Hey man, this bookcase looks like a cross. Let's do a pan shot, while Mike is talking, and see if we can get a message across, besides the one Mike's talking about. I think it will work just fine. What do you think?" and the rest of the guys look at him like he's crazy.
Having taken a few pictures in my life, I doubt this was set up the way some people claim it was. If they really wanted to make it look like a cross, they would have removed the ornaments and things that make it pretty obvious it's a bookshelf.

The View FROM HELL
December 19, 2007 - 19:39 ET by LiveFreeOrDieThe View (From Hell) If ever there were an allegory of the cave this is it. (On a couple of levels) The soulless Bolshevik Golem sitting on that stage sit fearing that if Christianity takes over they will all be in hell, all the while sitting amongst the flames and watching their own shadows on the wall. The very freedom they enjoy to express their bigoted, anti-Christian rants began with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which was signed by two evangelical Christian ministers, Lyman Hall & John Witherspoon. Just keep in mind folks, wherever Christianity is outlawed on earth you will also find liberty limited by tyrants. Conversely wherever Christians are in the majority, there too are found the freest of all peoples. Just the facts ma'am. Throughout history, wherever "Academic elitist dictatorships" outlaw God genocide soon follows.

That's true Chris.
December 19, 2007 - 20:28 ET by motherbeltThat's true Chris. Democrats are allowed to campaign in Black churches, and say that universal health care is really "Christian health care. Obama can "preach" to a congregation who then pray for him to be elected, and he can ask them to pray for him to be God's instrument on earth. But if a Republican says he thinks VMI should be allowed to have a prayer before meals, a theocracy is just around the corner.

December 20, 2007 - 00:25 ET by doug1950Did you know if Joy stands or sits in the just the right place on the stage you can actually hear the wind whistling through her empty gourd of a head?
Please oh please....
December 20, 2007 - 10:52 ET by blackngoldfanJust once in my lifetime I'd like to be given the opportunity to shut down Joy Behar and call out the absurdity of her every utterance.
"Fran our costume designer, she’s like with set design everything, there’s every thought that goes into the way a set is designed. And she felt like there was no accident with anything. That they saw the that it was a cross, and you know, they left it in there."
Right.....I suppose it isn't possible that with the Christmas tree and the bookcase and subdued lighting that they were just going for a "right at home" look. The scene is designed to invoke images of the comfort and warmth of home. We all remember sitting around as a family on Christmas eve. I'm even pretty sure we all had bookcases in our homes, too!
The saddest thing is:
(from Wikipedia)
"Behar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Queens College, and a Master of Arts degree in English Education from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is a former teacher at Lindenhurst High School on Long Island."
I am a simple High School graduate, and it is easily to see that her intellectual cupboard is bare. Never in my life have would I have imagined that level of ignorance could prevail and, more astonishingly, become a successful television personality. I would have failed high school if I held the same standards as she does.
Please please please PUHHHLEEEEEZZZZ give me a shot at debating her!!!!
