9/12 DC Marchers Take on More than Government Fiscal Policy -- The Media

Maybe there's a reason why the media have either denigrated or completely ignored the Sept. 12 march in Washington, D.C. - they were highly critical of their job performance as well.

Aside from protesters taking on CNN reporter Lisa Desjardins, as NewsBusters Matt Sheffield pointed out, there were also other pockets of backlash against media evident at the march, which were captured on video (pardon my shoddy camera work).

The march that preceded the rally in front of the U.S. Capitol took place on Pennsylvania Avenue, from Freedom Plaza to the West Lawn of the Capitol went directly in front of the Newseum, a building erected that supposedly honors those deemed the most important practitioners of the First Amendment - the news media. Marchers chanted, "Shame on the press," as they passed the colossal 250,000-square-foot building dedicated to the press situated between the White House and the U.S. Capitol on Pennsylvania Avenue. They also chanted the same words as they passed a motorcoach painted with CNN logos, which was set up in front of a set near the after-march rally.

And Desjardins wasn't the only CNN reporter to feel the wrath of the anti-mainstream media outrage. CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser also got his share of calls by the participants, which a lot of didn't make it to air on CNN. (0:42)

"You're supposed to use freedom of the press to protect us," one participant yelled at Steinhauser, expressing his frustration with CNN's decision to down play the ACORN scandal covered by Fox News and the circumstances surrounding the background of President Barack Obama's green jobs czar, Van Jones. "So where have you guys been?" (0:56)

Steinhauser also faced chants of "Glenn Beck," "Tell the truth," and a term conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh employs - "State-run media." (1:21)

My fear...

...is this is a series of events leading to a terrible incident. It will involve the leftist cockroaches perpertrating a "Reichstag Fire" incident and blame it on Neo-Nazis or some "right wing group" in order to marginalize conservatives. Any attempt to blame Obama or his czars will be treated like the "birthers". The bastards will eventually do something ultimately stupid.

But that incident (which I pray never happens) will ultimately lead to a full-scale revolt in every city...which I believe is inevitable.

Awake the sleeping giant...and that giant is WE THE PEOPLE!

Cool

That was awesome.I doubt the msm will do any self reflecting on their becoming the state media. It was good to see folks let them have it.

I'm surprised State Run Media even mentioned the gathering.

Good tagline. It fits. That one gal from CNN who was at a Tea Party is gone. The one gal they had this time seemed better by far.

Because

She talked to the crowd and asked them a question.

However, to continually ignore the popular uprisings is foolish.

I HAVE A DREAM...

If the American people can put some of the MSM out of buisiness, like the NYSlimes, or other "major" media players, I will party so hard that I may become an alcoholic. I think a reasonable target is too kill the nightly news on the 3 networks. The sooner they go away, the better. Plus, having it happen because the free market rejects them to the point they are not viable should be a goal.

The MSM has lost all relevance

The MSM has lost all relevance as well as credibility. Not only do they not give us factual accounts of what they cover by selective editing of facts and soundbites but they have comppletely lost all relevance by not covering at all subjects that are of importance to all Americans. Yes shame on the press you have let the American People down. The only thing that passes fo real news these days is on Fox News and it should not be that way.

We can no longer trust what we see and hear. Fox is doing well because of those that still watch the news more and more are turning to Fox. I watch Fox but I wish I could have more outlets of news to turn to. Since what remains of the MSM has become so one sided, inept, and totally corrupt in thier presentation of it that we are left with only one choice. One choice is never any good.

Juan Williams: So Wrong. So Very, Very Wrong.

Excuse, please, the length of this post, but I'm still having to pick my jaw up from the floor each time Juan's was-visiting-at-the-White-House-last-week spin enters my mind.

Incredibly misinformed, underinformed, and delusional media, as exampled through the words of Juan Williams. Bill Krystal lays out the mindset of the protesers precisely.  Item by item.  Right down the list.  However, Juan Williams refuses to give the American people, at least those opposed to Obama's socialist plans and policies, any credit for having an intelligence and comprehension for the facts which is far greater than his!

Juan Williams, in this panel discussion, IS the media.

From 'Fox News Sunday' this morning:

WALLACE:  Bill, before we get to the President's speech, I want to stay on the so-called TEA Party Movement, if you will.

Is it all good for the GOP or is there a risk for Republicans that some of the more extreme protesters could turn off moderates, could turn off the center?

BILL KRYSTAL (WEEKLY STANDARD):  I mean, there's always that risk.  But look, this is, people are upset about a series of pieces of legislation, but I don't think we should underestimate the importance of health care itself.  This is a huge effort to transform something very important to people's lives.  One-sixth of the American economy.  This isn't a tax cut.

Fine, a tax cut, you ram it through, you make some squirrelly arguments, your taxes go up three percent, they go down seven percent, it has real consequences on people's jobs, but still, it's only money.

This is, this is health care.

And that this thing is being rammed through is what really offends people.  I've talked to a lot of people who went to town hall meetings.  One reason they went in August was because they thought this thing was being railroaded down the track.  This was their one chance to stand up and say, "Wait a second!  Wait a second! You haven't even read your own bill!".

Mara just said it would be interesting this week to see the actual plan with the details.  We haven't seen that!  And what is their plan?  What do they intend to do, Obama?  There's no plan yet, with details, yet the thing has to be passed -

(CROSSTALK)

MARA LIASSON (NPR):  We're getting a lot closer and we've got a lot more....

KRYSTAL:  -  has to be passed within a month.  It's a total outrage!  It has never happened in American history.  It's something that will change every family's life, that affects the country so fundamentally, it's the biggest piece of legislation...  What do you think?  Twenty-five years?  Thirty-five years?  And that this this, they wanted to jam this through before the August recess.  That's really wrong.  Just from the point of view of how a democracy should work, and I think that's whats most upset people.

JUAN WILLIAMS:  Well, I think that it's not jamming through to the point that it is democracy at work when people are having debate and discussion about the particulars of the bill.  That's the good of people turning out in large numbers yesterday.  Uh, people who were saying, you know, they have specific concerns...  I'm all for that.  I think people should be involved in the country, but the question is, if you don't know what you're talking about, exactly, how can you have a protest?  Because, you know what?  The big criticism against Obama, President Obama, and I think this is totally legitimate, is he has not spoken out until now.  He has not made it clear what he believes in, and even in the speech that he gave this week, there are details missing.  So, people have every right to say "give me the details".  But, at this point, what are you protesting against?  And that's why, you know, there was a flavor to yesterday's...  ...that comes across somewhat as an anti-(unintelligible), anti- Obama.

WALLACE:  You don't think that we have a pretty strong sense of what the President is calling for?

WILLIAMS:  Now we do.  I think now we have a clearer sense after the speech on Wednesday, that he wants everybody to either be covered, to have, you have to buy your own insurance or be covered somewhere or pay a penalty, he wants employers to do it, we understand that.  And we understand that he favors the public option, but, as you revealed in your interview, is not likely to stand by and allow it to block final passage.  But that's not, I don't think that's what the people who were here and who were passionate people here yesterday were about.  I think they were saying, still talking about "Death Panels"

WALLACE:  Is that what you think this is about?  Death panels?  Unreasoned opposition?

BRIT HUME:  Well, no.  I don't.

And, Mr Hume goes on to discuss how the protesters are concerned about the cost, the addition to the deficit, the intrusion of the government into the insurance industry, how it's not far-fetched to see the government intrusion will push people into a single-payer system, the lack of details, etc.  Summing up with; They don't like the details they HAVE heard!

Judas Priest, Juan!  Stay away from the White House!  It's affecting you in ways you don't want.  You're losing any and all credibility with me, Juan, and you were one of the liberals I was able to listen to without having to be locked in a skeptical wince.

I miss Brit Hume

I miss Brit Hume. Oh I know he shows up from time to time but I miss his steady hand at the helm. As he would often school his reporters being fair is not an attitude it is a skill and I am afraid that skill is being lost. Mr Hume was the one who was the voice of sanity that would bring clarity in the middle. Juan is suffering a case of infactuation and Brit would have called him on it.

I am a conservative and a registered Republican but there is always something to be learned by listening to and understanding both sides of an argument. Today Fox news is more popular than ever but they are losing credibility with democrats. I think that the way Brit ran the news room made for better coverage. I have seen some decline in the quality of coverage since his partial retirement.

I can only hope that the quality and fairness of the coverage moves back up to the level it was when Brit was in charge. Fox has not slipped that much but more editorial content has been slipping into the News portions of thier program since Brit has left.

Respectfully I would disagree that FNC...

...is losing credibility with Democrats.  I believe the numbers bear this out.  FNC already had conservatives.  However, their most recent rise in ratings and the dramatic drop at CNN and broadcast networks shows me more liberal viewers are coming on board as well.  Hell, BOR beats Katie Couric in total viewers and CBS is in millions more homes than FNC.

As a human being I really

As a human being I really like Juan Willimas. He seems a very nice man, and a good guy to share a beer or two.

BUT --- on that panel there's something wrong with his brain. Hulme or Krystal will state some clear facts to refute his wishful thinking, it'll cut to Juan who looks like he just stepped on a dog turd in bare feet.

It's like his brain just can't compute the facts -- or even a competing opinion.

It's very weird.

Liberal nutjobs shouting 'racist conspiracy' to anyone criticising Barack Obama are all crazed... RACERS

Jack B

Oh Jack... I just spat my coffee on the key board.... "he looks like he just stepped on a dog turd in bare feet" thats hillarious

taking a hard look at Juan-

i have come to realize, Juan does not believe what he is saying-just taking party line.

no rational human, will ever back all this nonsense in the health care hi-jacking.

being a local and fed up

I went down for the march. I did NOT go to Freedom Plaza for the start because there was a sea of humanity at the top of the Metro exit that was already sweeping down Penn. Ave. A chant of "READ THAT WALL...READ THAT WALL!" went up at the Newseum. The First Amendment is inscribed in bold huge letters on the front of the building. It was only the second time I've done anything like that. The other was the last Tea Party in the rain. By our nature conservatives are not given to these types of display but, like most of the multitude, I can be silent no more.

As we passed the building,

As we passed the building, everyone around us looked over and started reading it and then wondered why we as a people had forgotten those very important words.

At about 1:53 you can see

At about 1:53 you can see my wife holding a sign that says "Obama pay for your own acorns" and my 11 y.o. holding one that says "I'm saving for taxes." This was a great experience for all of us.

Agreed

I also wish I had more news outlets than just Fox.  Fox is sometimes too tabloid and seems to love covering Playboy too much

The mainstream media

The mainstream media, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, et-all are not journalists. The are Propagandists, pure and simple.  Stalin would have loved them...

            By

By the time we get rid of these so-called journalists, the only reporting they will be to cover is dog shows. If the dogs don't bite them.

I was there in spirit . . .

I can't wait to talk to a friend of mine who was there . .

I wonder when CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser will become CNN Deputy Political Czar??

The MSM doesn't see a protest

they don't see angry protseters against a tax increase or the reform of Healthcare the the dems want.  They see racist and rich people worried about money and a "balck"man as President.  Anything agaist BHO and his polices is just that, racist or rich.  They even turn on one of their own when she, Cindy Sheehan when she potested the President's polices on the AFGAN war.

Do you really exect them to be fair about this?  Come on angry white racist, get real!

How Does the Medicine Taste Now

We need so much more of this at every event they attend.  For those that say we shouldn't shut them down we need the coverage, BS, lies are no use to those speaking Facts.  Shut them down and drown them out, the same techniques they used on use for 25 years.
