NPR's Nina Totenberg must live in a world of Obama fanatics. But she works for NPR, so that's tautological. Weeks after she relayed how “a friend of mine said, 'oh my God, we have a President again!,'” this weekend she excitedly recounted how, following President Barack Obama's trip to Europe, she “heard...all over Washington” people saying “'I'm going to go on YouTube and watch the President's speech because I heard it was so good.'” She hailed that as “just an amazing thing.”
On Inside Washington, a weekly show produced at DC's ABC affiliate and aired on it and its local all-news cable channel, Totenberg rejected the notion Obama's speeches and remarks in any way celebrated America's decline. Without specifying which speech she was talking about, but most likely Obama's address in Prague or before Turkey's parliament, Totenberg asserted:
He spoke of the modern realities and the modern difficulties that we've had in our relations with other countries. How many times have you heard people say “I'm going to go on YouTube and watch the President's speech because I heard it was so good”? And I heard that all over Washington this week. And that is just an amazing thing.
Totenberg is continuously impressed by Obama. My March 23 NewsBusters item, “'Masterful' Obama Performance with Leno 'Calmed Down' Totenberg,” related:
Since "I've really been getting pretty upset in the last week, just like every other American," NPR's Nina Totenberg decided to watch President Obama on the Tonight Show "and he calmed me down. And he was presidential. I thought it was just a masterful performance."
My February 27 NewsBusters post, “Nina Totenberg's Friend: 'Oh My God, We Have a President Again!'” reported:
NPR's Nina Totenberg revealed Friday, not surprisingly, that she was enchanted by President Barack Obama's address earlier in the week to a joint session of Congress. "It made me feel pretty good. I thought it was a great speech," she enthused before relaying a contrast with former President George W. Bush: "A friend of mine said, 'oh my God, we have a President again!'" Totenberg added that "in some ways, that's not fair to Bush," but she insisted: "That's the way you felt. You felt this was a guy who was totally in charge."

Like you can't see enough
April 12, 2009 - 20:22 ET by nadadhimmiLike you can't see enough Obama on the slobbering networks? I get on youtube to see the Obama mess ups because the msm WILL NOT publish anything that is not fawningly in praise of him. The msm is like a 14 yr old girl with a crush on the latest heartthrob pop singer. And just as analytical of behavior and talent. Imagine if Bush had tried to enter the Oval Office thru the window, or said all Asthma kids need to treat their condition is "a Budweiser". Obama is an idiot off his teleprompter, they know it, won't admit it and conceal it from the public to protect him and his policies and his holiness.

NINA!
April 12, 2009 - 22:18 ET by blazermaniacThere are plenty of people flocking to you tube, but none that I know of would waste any time watching Obama. Obama gets way too much airtime as it is.
What a nit!
April 12, 2009 - 20:34 ET by IamTinmanIn the 2 1/2 months since Himself took office, outside of Washington D.C., I have heard exactly no one say they were going on Youtube to watch what most analysts have described as professorial and boring! I have heard outrage for apologizing to Europe of all peoples.
Even if his speech were fantastic, (Which it definately was not) it certainly wasn't effective. Look at the results. We got single finger salutes from everyone and no help.
I do however give Kudos to Obama for authorizing force to get Captain Phillips freed from the Somali pirates! I honestly didn't think he had it in him. Now he needs to teach the pirates a lesson which is not to attack American vessels. Since the rest of the world doesn't seem too anxious to help, here's a finger for them. Let them deal with their own piracy problems.

April 12, 2009 - 20:43 ET by UpNorthhe didn't even need to get involved, that's why the Navy pays Commanders. They take the rules of engagement and apply them, they certainly don't need micromanagement from DC to do their jobs. All the Obamunist needed to do was make a general statement, then stand back and let the professionals do what they are trained to do. I see this more as the Lame Stream Media trying to get some luster for the Obamunist out of a situation he was totally incapable of handling.
As to teaching the pirates a lesson, Mike McConnell had it right, on his radio program. The money from piracy goes mostly to a few pirates. There's nowhere in Somalia to spend it, other than on their own private palaces. A couple of B-2's and a few laser-guided bombs would take care of that. Make it extremely dangerous and deadly to try to profit from being a pirate and the problem, for the most part, would be solved.

April 12, 2009 - 20:58 ET by motherbeltOH, UpNorth, but the AP headline was that Obama authorized the use of force!!! We are supposed to be awestruck that he did what he was elected to do!

Like all big time mobsters they spread the wealth around and I'm sure the local economy benefits and in some ways the bigger economy does also. A trickle down effect if you will.
The pirates should have been dealt with immediately and no negotiations. That would have sent a message to the pirates they would not forget. As it stands Obama messed up by sending FBI negotiators. We should take lessons from countries dealing with piracy in teh 1700's to 1900's; they were dealt with swiftly and harshly.

April 12, 2009 - 21:37 ET by Billybob RedneckAll this frothing at the mouth is getting old. These kind of people remind me of a movie I saw as a child. It was the original Night of the Living Dead.
What were dealing with here are ObamaZombies. Like the living dead, they feast on living flesh. They will attempt to devour anyone that has good sense, morals, believes in their constitutional rights, and faith in the one true God of the Bible. And like in the movie, exposing these cretins to the light will destroy them.
For these ObamaZombies, the truth not only hurts them, but totally destroys their surrealistic world. It may get exhausting contending with these decomposing degenerates of society, but there's nothing as funny as setting one these nut balls on fire, and watching them run away into the night, squealing and slapping themselves.

The real president left the building in January
April 12, 2009 - 21:40 ET by nkviking75I guess they think Obama is a great president because he's a great performer when reading a speech off a teleprompter. My general impression of his first few weeks suggests words like confusion, chaos, incompetence, double talk, fear, panic, and more. Whatever problems Bush had, and he definitely had some, he was far more presidential in his 8 years than the man who preceded him and the man who followed him.

April 13, 2009 - 00:01 ET by GalvanicListening to Totenberg over the years on dozens and dozens of Inside Washington shows, has convinced me that she lives in a rather small, gilded world where liberal pols mix with liberal pundits and convince each other that they are elite.
I can honestly say that I have never heard her utter an insightful pieve of information, or a cogent bit of analysis. I've actually burst out laughing at some of the totally inane things she spews out. How she ever built a journalistic reputation is beyond me.

April 13, 2009 - 09:14 ET by bobdogTottenburg has apparently mastered the art of suspending disbelief. This almost has to be the case. I saw a poll on CNBC yesterday, of all places, asking viewers to give Obama a grade. Working from memory, something like 45% of 2.5 million voters gave Obama a grade of F, and 15% gave him a D, which means that 60% of all respondents think Obama is failing as a President. Considering his "mandate" was only 52%, that means there are many Democrats who have changed their minds.
Me, I'm the exact opposite. I've suspended belief when it comes to Obama, and I'm sick of his trying to re-engineer the country when it's clear he has little understanding of our Constitution and the intentions of our founders. The Bill of Rights seems all to often to be an obstacle to be overcome.
I don't know. Maybe he is right to think of himself as a Great Man. Maybe he'll find somebody to agree with him about that. Personally, I hope he falls on his ass before he does too much more damage, because he's not taking us where I think we should go.
