Since “I've really been getting pretty upset in the last week, just like every other American,” NPR's Nina Totenberg decided to watch President Obama on the Tonight Show “and he calmed me down. And he was presidential. I thought it was just a masterful performance.”
The eager-to-be-impressed Totenberg made her comment on Inside Washington, a weekly show produced and aired over the weekend by Washington, DC's ABC affiliate and its all-news cable channel, News Channel 8:
When I heard he was going to do this I thought, should a President really do that? Then I actually stayed up and watched it and he calmed me down. I've really been getting pretty upset in the last week, just like every other American I think. And he calmed me down. And he was presidential. I thought it was just a masterful performance.
Three weeks ago, my NewsBusters post, “Nina Totenberg's Friend: 'Oh My God, We Have a President Again!'” recounted:
NPR's Nina Totenberg revealed Friday, not surprisingly, that she was enchanted by President Barack Obama's address earlier in the week to a joint session of Congress. "It made me feel pretty good. I thought it was a great speech," she enthused before relaying a contrast with former President George W. Bush: "A friend of mine said, 'oh my God, we have a President again!'" Totenberg added that "in some ways, that's not fair to Bush," but she insisted: "That's the way you felt. You felt this was a guy who was totally in charge."

Reminds me of the original "Stepford Wives" movie.
On a more serious note, isn't referring to Obama as "masterful" sorta' racist?

Giddy Obama is our GIGGLER IN CHIEF
March 23, 2009 - 08:36 ET by ekslibWho but socialists and sociopaths would laugh while describing their countrymen's increasing economic burdens?
Is Obama a sociopath or a socialist or both?
If my plan was succeeding as well as Obama's, I'd be giddy, too.

Galvanic
March 23, 2009 - 09:45 ET by GalvanicObama's certainly displaying al the political direction and tactics of a socialist.
I think he's giddy because he can't believe that he's been able to get away with it so easily. The bail-out is merely a game masking the larger agenda. Under the guise of staving off an economic catastrophe (The Politics of Fear that Dems feigned shunning), he's managed to get the biggest spending bill in the history of the US through a criminally negligent Congress without vetting and full of pen and ink changes; in fact, no one had any time to read and comprehend it at all. We are now discovering that it's chock full of funding for his Big Government concepts, from universal health care, to national bank ownership, to government contracting to union-only firms, to the fraudulent socialist organization ACORN.
Game - set - match OBAMA. It was oh-so-easy. The rest of his Administration is merely riding out the storms --- and there will be many.
As for Totenberg, she's proof that one can become a journalist/pundit with only one brain cell. She's always been big on rhetoric and short on analysis of facts. She better suited for The View than any news analysis program. Actually, she's better suited for garden clubs and PTA meetings.

"Garden clubs and PTA meetings". You've hit it on the head. That's all the MSM is good for these days. Most of the "news" our citizens get is simply backyard gossip-- opinion presented as fact. "Jounalism" is dead in America.

March 23, 2009 - 08:37 ET by cvgbuckeyeNina (or is it Ninny) you, as well as the rest of the MSM, have a very low threshold of glee when it comes to Chairman Obama.
The bar has been lowered so far for this man that I don't know how he can manage to get under it but he has.

March 23, 2009 - 08:54 ET by Lord ErondWith Obama, you have this immensely historic candidacy wasted on this classless, uncouth, rude, ignorant jackass. He insults our closest ally, he insults the special olympics. You have to be a grade A A--hole to make the blunders he's made. And then this fishy smelling ho covers up for him, earning her presidential kneepads? I can't wait till 2010 when I can vote out EVERYONE with a (D) by their name. This moron needs some opposition.

March 23, 2009 - 09:01 ET by allanfSometimes I get the feeling that Obama is more concerned about sidling up to our enemies than keeping the friends we have.
He also insults the black community . . .
March 23, 2009 - 11:38 ET by CKA in Red State USA. . .of which he's so desperately tried to be a part.
His manipulation of them and disdain for the common members is outrageous.
As is his support for abortion, which kills black babies at a much higher rate than babies of other colors.
He and his puppeteers have ensured that another black man or woman likely will not be president for a long time.
And that's truly a shame.

They still don't, because it appears that Obama is still on those stages, making fun of everything he is not and seems never will be or is reluctant to learn about becoming: moral, informed, intellectual, hard-working, pro-American, pro-life, pro-the-Christian-faith-he-claims-to-have, pro-national-security, etc.

March 23, 2009 - 11:28 ET by CKA in Red State USA. . . sleep better at night, knowing that this overpaid NPR personality, this liberal if not leftist, saw Obama was "presidential."
Silly me, I thought that he tarnished the Office of the Presidency and looked as if he didn't understand that the campaign is over and he, regrettably, won.
I guess my embarrassment at seeing Barack "I won and I'm acting like Nero, fiddling while Rome burns" Obama on late-night TV, in Tinsel Town, clouded my perception.
But, alas, Totenberg has brought reality.
NOT.
Nina Totenberg...I saw this show...
March 23, 2009 - 11:42 ET by PrairieSkyover the weekend, and it was almost painful to watch. Charles Krauthammer was also on the program, and the comparison between his comments and analysis and Ms. Totenberg's was just sad...If she is as stupid as she seems, I'm amazed that she actually manages to keep her job. She clearly has a major-league Obama crush, and it colors everything that she thinks about him and what he does as president.

So what's new, he is a great performer that gives good "leg tingle" speeches. That seems to be all it takes to make a liberal swoon.
I seem to remember Obama using the phrase "silly season" quite often to describe anyone who dared criticize him or his ideas. Perhaps Obama's giddy giggling is just the new hope and change version of silly season.
