ABC reporter David Wright on Tuesday night, forced to summarize the tax plans of John McCain and Barack Obama in 30 seconds, described them through a distorted liberal prism. Though McCain wishes to continue all the income tax rates from the Bush tax cuts, with no hike or decrease for any income level, Wright asserted: “He'd make permanent the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.” No, for all Americans.
Obama, Wright proceeded to report, “would raise taxes on the wealthy, people who make more than $250,000 a year, but cut them for most households.” The text on screen, however, stated an impossibility: “Cut taxes on most households (95%).” That 95 percent is impossible since one-third of those who file with the IRS are “non-payers,” people who end up paying no tax or get money back which exceeds their payments. Obama plans to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and create other credits. For those for whom the credits surpass their tax obligation, those are not tax cuts, but spending hikes or federal giveaways akin to welfare.
A June report from the Tax Foundation listed 32.58 percent of IRS income tax returns for 2005 as “non-paying.”
In addition, Obama's plan calls for raising the 33 and 36 percent tax brackets. In 2008, those with an income as low as $100,150, not $250,000, paid at the 33 percent rate. See this Tax Foundation report from January.
Wright's September 16 story on how the two candidates approach the economy was the premiere of a new World News series: “What's the Difference”? Where Wright summarized their tax plans:
Perhaps the sharpest difference between the two is on the taxes people pay. McCain believes cutting taxes across the board would promote economic growth. He'd make permanent the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, cut corporate taxes and double the personal exception for dependents.
Obama would raise taxes on the wealthy, people who make more than $250,000 a year, but cut them for most households. He's give middle class families a thousand-dollar tax credit and cut tax taxes completely for seniors on fixed incomes.
This is not the first time ABC has exaggerated how many would benefit from Obama's tax plan. My Sunday NewsBusters item, “Gibson Advanced to Palin What Hume Calls an Obama 'Dishonesty,'” recounted:
Speaking of "dishonesty" in McCain's TV ads, on Fox News Sunday Brit Hume pointed out Barack "Obama goes around claiming he's going to cut the taxes of 95 percent of the public, which is literally impossible" since "40 percent of American taxpayers don't pay any income tax," but that hasn't stopped ABC (directly) and CBS (implicitly) in recent days from advancing that Obama claim as fact. Charles Gibson, in his third interview session with Sarah Palin excerpted on Friday's 20/20 and Nightline, stated that Obama will extend the "Bush tax cuts on everything but people who own or earn more than $250,000 a year -- cuts taxes on over 91 percent of the country."
CNN forwarded the same faulty exaggeration Tuesday morning as Kiran Chetry insisted to John McCain: “Most of our independent economists say that Barack Obama is actually cutting taxes for about 90 percent of Americans.” (Matthew Balan's NB post.)
Excerpts from a Tax Foundation summary (PDF) of the McCain and Obama tax plans:
McCain:
Continue the lower rates enacted in the 2001-03 tax cuts.Increase the dependent exemption each year until it reaches $7,000 in 2016 (the 2016 level would be twice the level in 2009)
Phase out the AMT.
Maintain the 15% rate on capital gains and dividends.
Obama:
Maintain the current 10, 15, 25, and 28 percent rates from the 2001-03 tax cuts, but allow the top two rates to expire (the 33 percent rate would rise to 36 percent; the 35 percent would rise to 39.6 percent). Eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year.Create a new "Making Work Pay" refundable income tax credit of up to $500 per person or $1,000 per family. It would offset the payroll tax on the first $8,100 of earnings.
Create a 10 percent mortgage credit worth up to $800.
Give full-time workers making minimum wage an Earned Income Tax Credit benefit up to $555. If the workers are "responsibly supporting their children on child support," give
those workers a benefit of $1,110.Extend AMT patch.
Raise capital gains and dividends rates to somewhere between 20% and 28%, keeping them equal.

1) If Obama follows through on soaking the rich it will cause massive layoffs and increase in the price of goods to compensate.

My neighboors make just over that being the two of them and one daughter and trust me, they live pretty damn comfortably. A new car every other month, a boat, and constant trips around the country. Not to mention the second propety that they have just purchased.
If his tax plan is a good one, then I'm willing to listen and the fact that everyone here just wants to lash out so angrily is a bit sad to be truthful. I'm not going to go out and vote for him by any means but I'm open to hear what he has to say and how he will implement it, but some of you are so overly bitter and paranoid that it does reflect in a negative light when people act that way.
If Obama's tax plan is better, than it is. No harm, no foul. Until I se it debunked fully then there is no reason for me to react as some do and just say he's a liar and a pick-pocket.
Fact is McCain's plan will slightly favor those making a bit more than the average (and in this day $250,000 is quite well above average) and that's fine with me as I'm doing quite well that Senator McCain's plan will return about a $1,000 more to me than Obama's.
What I'm trying to say is this: If your main issue is taxes, and if Obama's plan that he has proposed does favor you more than McCain's does, then why not just listen instead of responding so angrily.

Tax businesses too! I'm so tired of seeing companies make profits while their workers struggle to survive. I say we take an additional 20% of all corporate income and give to the working class. No more of that supposed, growth, research and investment crap they keep claiming to spend the money on. They think they can make me pay $1.00 for a Coke. Wait until we start taking away 20% of their cash!
(Please note the sarcasm and consider this your debunking. You tax the rich and they stop spending money. What you consider a waste of money puts food on the table for the guy who sold him that waste. What you may think is a luxury item for the rich provides a living for the guy who makes that luxury item. What you may consider a pampering for a wife/mistress/spoiled brat is a car payment to a manicurist, hair stylist and cucumber facial specialist.
So, when you tax the rich to bring them down to your level, you'll find that your new level has dropped also. All you did was knock them down a rung and took yourself down two.
Finally, when you tax businesses, they pass that on to the consumer. So when Obama says he is only going to tax the wealthy, he lies. He wants to tax businesses as well. Businesses will pass this on to the consumer and become a hidded sales tax that EVERYONE, regardless of income level pays. So a tax on business is a tax on everyone... well, everyone who makes purchase of things like goods and services! And let's not forget how it stifles innovation, stuns growth and causes outsourcing to explode! Yeah, that's good for the American worker!)

1. The Obama website did not mention it in the "upcoming events" section. Gee, I guess they didn't want the little donors to know Obama is just another fat cat getting bundles of money. Why?
2. Speaking of bundles, is anybody tracking down the source of the money? Donors are limited to $2300. The talk was they would raise $9 million tonight. That translates into 3,913 donors giving $2300. Since this is at least Obama's fourth dinner there, he has to find brand new donors for this one. Is he? Who is keeping track of the bundlers and who are they?
3. The media reports these to-dos as "Obama raises $9 million." Well, in the money instructions donors are usually directed to give $2300 to the Obama campaign, $20,000 to the DNC, and so forth. If that is the case, does Obama really raise what they report? Is the DNC money really separate, as the law mandates or is there collusion, as the law prohibits?

I'm
always fascinated by the way the human mind functions. Obama followers
concluded that by signing me up for Obama letters in illegal
impersonations that would somehow be something that would matter.
I
in fact have thanked them repeatedly as what a wonderful source they
have been for studying exactly how the Obama campaign "thinks".
It
is amazing how the Democrats of Obama all want to be my new best
friends. I thought perhaps it was exclusive with my new best friend Tom
Daschle, but suddenly here am I receiving emails from my new best
friend Michelle Obama.
It must be the way I type on a keyboard which
reveals I'm a woman and intensely interested in women's issues, or, it
is this blog is so tracked that the organisation of Obama knows I write
passionately on women's rights championed in reality only by Gov. Sarah
Palin.
What is most noteworthy of the Michelle Obama
correspondence is that Sarah Palin is in their letter and so is Hillary
Clinton. The Obama campaign is devoting an entire week to women making
all women political whores for Barack and Joe.
For this Obama
campaign to be resorting to that reveals they not only have a major
hemorrhage of PUMA voters for Hillary leaving, but that they are
consistently loosing the Midwest demographic on women of all ages to
Sarah Palin.
By their very actions, they are revealing to the
world what their million dollar polling is trending. As this blog
predicted, the entire upper midwest from Minnesota to Pennsylvania is
moving away from Barack Obama.
Worse yet for Mr. Obama is the fact
that his male and female staff conclude that gathering ornery women
into coffee gatherings for Barack is tossing them a bone to make them
feel like they are part of a winning team.
As the Obama camp has
not figured out, Sarah Palin is going to be the focus of every one of
these women in conversation as they ponder their hatred. These liberal
Obama women will also ponder all Obama has done to Sarah Palin in
political rape and deep down remember all the things they put up with
in life and how very ungood it feels to succumb to the ends justifying
the means in working for a ticket where Hillary is finished if Obama
wins and their dream of any female on a national ticket will be gone
for a generation if Gov. Palin does not succeed.
Quite a coup from
the two liberal guys, destroying the most powerful Democratic woman
ever and ruining all women's upper movement as political parties will
not take the chance on a woman being on the ticket again for a
generation.
What I found most telling in the Michelle Obama
letter below is the absolute hatred she has for all men. This letter of
course was a drafted document, sanctioned by her and run through by the
campaign, but there are key phrases in it which are really astounding.

day -- because he lived it."
Unquote.
I guess all those
pictures of Grandpa Stanley Dunham were his ghost as apparently he has
been dead since 1961 in raising infant Barry, and, then there was the
stepfather, Soetero, who apparently lived in another house, another
city away from Stanley Ann Dunham, while they lived in Indonesia as
Michelle tells us there were no men around as Barack was a single
parent child.
Apparently Mr. Soetero must have mailed even his sperm
with a turkey baster to Stanley Ann to father their daughter as he just
never was around.
I honestly was surpised that Grandpa Stanley
was dead or even booted Grandma Dunham and Barrack out onto the street
as Michelle states he was not around and it was only Gram during
Barry's teenage years.
Apparently Barack was lying too in Sins
of My Father in noting that Frank Marshall Davis and Grandpa Stanley
were chugging booze together.
Yeah I know it is Dreams of my Father, but fornication, adultery, child abandonment are not exactly dreams.
What followed was a most interesting Michelle quote in:
"And
now, he and I are raising two young girls. They are the reason we're in
this race -- to make the world a better place, full of opportunity, for
them and for all of our children."
Wow, here Barack is outed
again as a liar in not once in the Denver sermon from the mount did he
ever mention about ever being only in this race to impress his two
girls.
In running through that speech I can not find, "Yeah, I
don't care about bankrupting insurance companies, cutting taxes and
bankrupting the nation, putting on the machete and Luo war ash and
doing in it man to man with Obama and my big ole blade and making sure
homosexuals can visit people they love in hospitals. I don't care about
none of that as I'm in to win for my two little girls".
Michelle also revealed a great deal about Barack's intentions in this election:

working and middle class families ahead of special interests, and
change our broken school system so that every single child in this
nation has a world-class education from pre-school through college."

It
seems Mrs. Obama does not quite understand America as the President and
Vice President do not pass legislation. She apparently doesn't know
either that if Senators are elected that they stop serving in Congress
so will not be passing legislation.
The tax cuts for 95% of American
"families" now has changed from all Americans as it was outed that only
around 40% of Americans even pay taxes.
Mrs. Obama also reveals
Barack is going to have dictatorial powers in making all wages equal.
I'm certain that the girly reporters at CBS are going to love getting
paid equal wages like Katie Couric, along with all the men getting the
same multimillion dollar raise.
It is lovely that my postal carrier
being a government employee will get the same 6 figure wages of
President Obama being in the same job as a government employee.
I
especially appreciate Michelle tossing out David Axelrod's special
interests, gay people's interests, anti gun interests, abortion
industry interests and all black people's interests for just one group
of "working middle class".
Of course, I do not quite understand how
throwing black people out in the NAACP and heaving poor working class
people to the side of the road is Constitutional, but Michelle has
spoken so it must be the messiah's will.
The last part is just
almost more than this feminine keyboard typer can take in all of my
fantasies about Teddy Kennedy have been crushed in he wrote the Bush
Administration's education bill and I'm just amazed that Teddy broke
education from pre school to high school.
Michelle must know what
she is doing being behind the pulpit as the messiah's wife, but bashing
around a guy suffering from brain cancer seems a bit harsh for even the
wife of a god but then Michelle has spoken.
I'm so pleased
though that out of 52 weeks in a year, Michelle, Barack and Joe have
rationed one week for women sort of like how they rationed money to
Hillary Clinton's campaign debt in leaving her hanging.
It is lovely
in my new found feminism to know I'm equal to Barack and Joe who need
me, but I get only 1/52nd the time that David Axelrod, David Plouffe,
Tom Daschle, Steve Hildebrand and Bill Clinton get.
What will I
do with all that extra time? Perhaps the other 51/52nds of my life I
will see about being a dual citizen as Michelle has made me a
Minnesotan. Oh joy in that, it is something all little girls dream of
in growing up be a Minnesotan.
Will the miracles ever cease from
the messiah and the messiahette. They don't walk on water, but they do
change Truth into lies and raise women to be 1/52nd as important as a
man.

The top 1% income earners pay 39% of all taxes. And, get this, that has gone UP 2% since President Bush took office.
The top 25% of income earners pay 86% of all taxes. And, as above, that is up from 84% since President Bush took office.
So, the dimocrats in general and bambi (aka 57 states) in particular are lying. It is the ole' class envy gambit.
Yet, what is amazing to me is that bambi is getting away with it. This is the first defeatocrat in my lifetime that has said that he would raise taxes and has made it an issue. And, people are buying it??? It is insane.
Trust me, when income earners earning over $250,000 get whacked, they will pass the whack on to you.
Meanwhile, back in '94 we finally got rid of the most heinous parts of the welfare laws. However, it has been slowly replaced with the earned income tax credit.
Oh, by the way. Back in the '50s, taxes were less than half what they are today. Women stayed home and raised the kids and men earned the living. Now, despite the blather from women's "lib" it is required that the women go to work so that a typical family will have a decent income. This is truly insane.

There is no way in hell (or anywhere else) that even with a 100% tax on everyone that we could possibly fund all of the goodies and "economic justice" the liberals are promising to give away.And even if we could fund it all, it's just not right to take individual liberty and responsibility away from the citizens and place it upon the government.

1. Put our basement remodel on hold (giving a couple of drywallers and framers less of our money)
2. Don't trade in our 10 YO car for a newer one (not paying commissions or supporting our local car dealerships)
3. Don't go out to eat at least 2x a month as we usually do (giving less of our money to waitstaff and local restaurants)
4. Don't mulch or do any type of landscaping in the spring (giving less of our money to the local landscapers and supply stores)
But it does mean we also cutback in other areas (cable, phone - getting rid of my cellphone, clothing, etc) in order to sock even more away in savings accounts...
Taking more of my money isn't the answer. The government spending less of our money is the answer.....
