CNN’s Chetry Questions McCain Tax Plan, Roberts Quizzes Biden from the Right

Kiran Chetry, CNN Anchor; and John McCain, Republican Arizona Senator | NewsBusters.orgCNN pressed Senators John McCain and Joe Biden about their campaigns’ respective tax plans on Tuesday’s American Morning during back-to-back interviews. Co-host Kiran Chetry questioned McCain from the left, citing the supposedly "non-partisan" Tax Policy Center run by two liberal organizations, the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, while her colleague John Roberts asked Biden about the "income redistribution" that is part of the Obama/Biden campaign’s tax proposal.

Chetry interviewed McCain first, starting 24 minutes into the 7 am Eastern hour of the CNN program, and first asked the Arizona senator to explain what he meant by saying that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" and about regulation of businesses. She then brought up the issue of taxes: "I want to ask you about this, though, when it comes to tax policy -- the non-partisan Tax Policy Center calculated the middle class would actually save significantly more under Barack Obama's tax plan than yours. How will your tax cuts, as it breaks down on income level, benefit the working class and the middle class?"

McCain didn’t submit to the premise of the question, and answered that Obama actually wants to raise taxes and that he "has plans for increasing government spending dramatically." The CNN co-host then followed-up by citing that "most of our independent economists say that Barack Obama is actually cutting taxes for about 90 percent of Americans. Do you agree with that?"

Obama plans to cut the taxes for about 90 percent of Americans? That figure sounds remarkably similar to the 95 percent figure Fox News Channel host Brit Hume shot down on Sunday’s Fox News Sunday program: "Obama goes around claiming he's going to cut the taxes of 95 percent of the public, which is literally impossible" since "40 percent of American taxpayers don't pay any income tax."

John Roberts, CNN Anchor; and Joe Biden, Democratic Delaware Senator | NewsBusters.orgDuring his interview of Biden, Roberts, after asking the Delaware senator what he would to in response to the current financial trouble, asked about his campaign’s proposed tax hikes on those who make more than $250,000. Biden first denied that this was the case, but when Roberts brought up the figure again, and Biden corrected himself.

The CNN co-host then pressed Biden on the timing of such a raise: "With the economy the way it is right now, is this anytime to be raising taxes on anyone?" Biden answered, "We are transferring the tax cut. We're raising the tax on them by letting this tax expire and flipping that tax and giving it to the people who need it." Roberts shot back, "Right, and some people would say that's income redistribution." The senator replied, "Well, I don't care what you call it -- the middle class is dying. John talks about the strength of the American worker. The American worker's been left out in the cold."

Chetry was better when she let her legs do the talking

Kiran Chetry is a disappointment. She was either a lying stooge of the left on Fox or is a chameleon spouting whatever wing she is working for.

McCain's tax plan is not an issue. McCain cutting spending and his economic plan is an issue as that will be the difference in bringing America around.

Obama's and Biden's spending, economic and tax plans will destroy America as it is pure Marxist. If you want a Soviet stagnant economy that is what Obama is.

The only reason Chetry and boy toy Roberts are even focusinng on taxes is for the reason that is not an area no one addresses or can understand in the public.

Let the legs talk Kiran as what is coming out of your mouth is Obama boring. You are no Laura Ingraham.

Kiran a Democrat from Maryland

Chetry is a Democrat from the state of Maryland. She's always been a lefty, but I can only guess that she wanted to keep showing her sexy legs off so badly over at Fox News that she covered her socialistic side up just a bit. I think I've got her pegged pretty good-she's no doubt a strong pro-abortion supporter who believes in income redistribution, give peace a chance, no guns and Larry marrying Tom, or even Sally marrying Cindy. And can't you tell that Sarah Palin is scaring the crap out of people like her?

That's not...

..... that's not the Kiran Chetry I used to know.

You used to know her?

Did you know her personally? It's pretty clear that anything that we might have perceived as fairness by her at Fox was just an act. As far as I know, she's always been very liberal, no doubt one of those card carrying members of NARAL. At Fox, I think she just wanted to charm Roger Ailes to try to get a center seat during the week, all the more exposure for those long legs. Those legs don't get the airtime that they did at Fox. What a shame. Kiran's major accomplishment and claim to fame, those lovely legs, are taking a back seat to things of more substance, like making sure Obama gets to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and is ready on day one to push their sickening agenda.

Kiran Chetry then and now

The Kiran Chetry I "knew" would clearly do her homework and come up with brilliant lines of questioning for those on all sides when she was on Fox News.  Back in the day I would see her routinely ask questions of guests and interviewees that I would come up with.  For me, my adoration of Miss Chetry had every bit to do with her brains and work ethic as much as it did her legs and her propensity to wear short skirts.

But here on CNN, her physical apperance is the ONLY thing she has going for her.  And it's sad.  It is utterly depressing, in fact.

Kiran, what happened on the way to Atlanta???

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

Kiran is not in Atlanta

Kiran anchors American Morning out of the Time Warner Center in NYC. When she first joined CNN, she filled in down in Atlanta for one of the other anchors, but her home base is in NYC.

I agree with all that you have said here. Kiran, always a liberal, yes, but before she joined CNN, she was a fair liberal. Now she's just a plain old partisan hack for Obama and Biden. I tell ya, these ultra feminist women just can't handle the prospect of Gov. Sarah Palin having any kind of influence on the women of this nation. They loathe what Palin represents, like having lots of children and not acting bitter all of the time.

Sheesh, I can't please anyone, can I?

Bless your nit-picky heart.  As if I knew (or more importantly, cared) if CNN had anything in New York.

Don't take it so hard

I certainly didn't mean to offend or upset you. I simply wanted to state for the record that Kiran does anchor from NY and not Atlanta. So, from the time she left the Fox News studios to the instant that she entered the Time Warner Center, she changed. Now, I don't mean she changed ideologically, because she was already liberal, but she changed in terms of how she performs her duties as a news anchor. She is no longer trying to hide her bias. And with the Gov. Palin pick, the female newsies are out with their long knives.

Kris..you didn't offend

Kris..you didn't offend me..I have been watching her from day one, the gal was good on Fox, but everything you have said is so true.

Just wanted to thank you...nobody has summed it up so well that I have seen here about her since she went to CNN..you put it all in a nutshell.

Who's offended?

You missed the :-), it seems.

It's ALL good.

Hey buddy, no problem.

I just want to say that Kiran Chetry was once a very refreshing presence in television news. She never seemed political or partisan for either side at Fox, and I've seen many comments over the years that echo the same sentiment. I know most people in the media are liberals, even many at Fox. Kiran would say things that would kind of tip you off that she was liberal ideologically, but having said that, she didn't come across as that mean, angry and bitter liberal woman that is so often presented to us on our tv screens. I felt that Kiran had her views, but at the same time knew that she had a job to do. She did it very well and it earned her a huge following.

Well, Kiran has been at CNN for over a year and a half now, and I think we can safely say that Kiran no longer cares if her own feelings and opinions show. Also, she is presenting one side as fact on many things, never bothering to bring up other angles to a story. That isn't the Kiran we watched at Fox. Look, I really think that the Palin entry into this race has brought out the true nature of these anchors and reporters. The Gov. is severely disliked, and that's putting it mildly. Women in the media are saying the most hideous things about her, and why? It's one thing to disagree about policy.....understood. But the personal animosity is astounding. It all boils down to the "A" word........abortion. I think we pro-lifers are seeing the terribly hard road we have before us, judging from the hate that is being spewed by females all over the country. Our "culture of life" is going to be a long time in coming, I'm afraid.

I never thought Chetry to be in this group of extreme feminists, but after hearing some of her "subtle but clear" remarks since Palin came into the race, I'm very sorry to say that she's probably no different than the gals that frequent Daily Kos and HuffPo. Too bad.

You can't make this stuff up!

It is just way too rich the way the media has taken to matching McCain against Biden and Obama against Palin. I can't imagine why they would do that deliberately, unless they think we won't notice.

I saw the Roberts/Biden

I saw the Roberts/Biden portion of this.  Roberts did a pretty good job of mentioning things that most would never have mentioned, such as the phrase "income redistribution."

Notice Biden didn't care what it was called.  Too bad it wasn't presented to Biden in an analogy......as in, if I go to my neighbor and take his money, then go down the street and give that money to a homeless person, is my deed a good one?  Do I end up in jail?  If the govt does it, the answers are yes and heck no.
